McKinnon shows the importance of a fullback.

Wade has been good for us this year; courage under the high ball, hits some good lines, breaks tackles and backs up. But I have seen many occasions this year where an extra yard of pace would have resulted in tries or another 60 metres. We don't need a ball playing 2nd five eighth, as we already have the creativity. But when you are creative at both ends of the field, speed is vital (eg - Rowdy Lawrence and Lote with those blind side plays- a heap of long range tries). A zippy, smart number 1 would be a huge plus. I miss you Hodgo!

The key point it that Mckinnon lacks that yard or two of pace now. I seriously don't get the number of posters who rate McKinnon especially as he has been shown up on numerous occasions. Its not just his attack that is a concern either. Against the warriors he got stood up in a major way twice. Benji saved him on one occasion but I'm pretty sure the other let to a try.
On the positive side the club obviously recognizes the problem hence he is moving on. I stated earlier the argument is done and dusted and it is. We only have to view it this year and hopefully McKinnon's positives are all we see until the end of this season.

Tiger05 If you gave any back the whole field to work with to beat a fullback one on one he will do it 9 times out of ten .

i like mckinnon, because he has the backing up a fullback should do. however, he is really injury prone and does lack pace.
i say the time is now to give mullaney a go there.

could someone please remind me who the other 20s fullback is? dont get to see any nyc games over here but i do seem to remember another kid who looked promising….

Its tough about lui though - his ONLY problem is his defense - THATS IT.

If he can work on that he'll be a better half than moltz - but at the moment, lui is getting trampled.

Its not just his defence. His attack has been terrible recently as well. Against the warriors it improved but prior to that it was red alert if he touched it - unfortunately the opposition weren't concerned.

I hope he can turn it around because he has shown that he can play.

There are two other threads on Lui and Half-backs, are these posts really on subject?

Your sort of proving my point though aren't you. You can state any fullback would also have stuffed up but I'm not sure its true.

Again we need to simply give someone a go.

A complaint that I have against Sheens is that he slowly culls the under performers and that could end up costing us not just in the long term but in the short term. Sheens has the ability to execute a vision of what he wants - Prince, Benji, Robbie and Hodgo in 05 were something else. On the flip side there is the visions that go wrong such as Johnny Cronk. Sheens can see that McKinnon is not the answer. Why not take the step forward now.

I did intend to drop this because to me it is like when Johnny Cronk signed with the Sharks. The experiment is over and it has been recognized for what it is. The real issue now is shouldn't we get someone into fullback who can make the position his own. Are we making it harder for us next season and possibly this season as well.

You keep assuming that Moltzen will be fullback next year There are other options

I'm pretty sure Turnstyle said to give Mullaney a go and I'd have no problems with that. Its not about Moltzen its about getting us a fullback who has that extra ability.

I'd be stoked to see Mullaney given a go.

That about sums it up doesn't it. He tries hard. He typically gets into the right position but we need a better option in the long term and thank god the club has recognized it.

At the end of the day McKinnon is the best option for this season. Next season the door opens, but one would think Moltzen would have first crack. Mullaney is an option but still needs a few kilos of muscle to cope in FG.

ill go as far to say that mckinnon is just about our most important player, definitely not our best..however the gap from him to the standard of our next fullback (considering sheens has forgotten brown is actually a fullback) is quiet staggering

Agreed, when McKinnon goes, it will be interesting to see who takes his place, the gap is significant, a great pity Brett HODGSON is signed for next year in ESL.

cunno of one my mates mums used to work with hodgos mrs and is still friends with her. the hodgo family are enjoying their time in the UK and brett absolutely loves the style of footy over there, he is also on a motza so im very confident that we wont see brett back in the nrl ever.

Glad to hear he and his family are happy in the old dart, good luck to Hodgo he deserves it.

Everyone knows McKinnon is not as quick as we would like and used to be but speed is only 1 quality of a fullback and the other qualities he has stand head and shoulder above our other options this year. He postions himself fantastically both as fullback and backing up. He makes lots of meters, is really solid under the high ball and defends well. His only failing is his speed has adandoned him, which is why we are moving him on for next year but he is essential to our hopes this year. Unfortunatly Brown has been is horrible form this season although I agree he plays best at FB. Moltzen is still getting his confidence and form back although getting better and is a definite option for next year alongside Mullaney

Can anyone give an update on how Mullaney has been going in State Cup ??

I still think the we may have something up our sleeve for fullback in the way of a signing . Time will tell . Moltzen is not the answer at fullback at this stage

WRONG

Which bit SC

YES EXTREMELY WRONG!!!

my mail is that we have got more chance of signing andrew johns to play halfback than we do of signing a specialist fullback for next season.
