Media reports out of Camp Concord

Over the past few weeks, WT's have been dominating headlines throughout the media predominately on off field matters. Rumours, then denials from the club, then more rumours, players leaving / players not leaving, etc. To me this raises a very important point in how they club is perceived, who feeds the media their information and the obligation the club has to their fans.

Point in case, is the Chris Hino saga, with rumours starting a few weeks back, then the club denying it on the weekend (CEO on Dead Set Legends & 2GB stating it was just a normal meeting to discuss our roster) and now story being reworked to say he can go but only to the UK

What obligation does the club have to their fans in terms of information we receive? Obviously I don't need to know the inner workings of the club but I feel that they have a certain obligation to give their fans correct information.

In the case of most of the rumours this year, the club has initially denied point blank before then agreeing to their validity in some manner. Unfortunately in this day and age of social media, they cant BS like they were able to. So who is to blame? CEO, Media Manager, Coach, Ballboy?

On a side note, the few players that were using Twitter have not been posting much recently with Bryce Gibbs not appearing to be on there anymore

in Short, stop treating us like Mushrooms and show the fans some respect

I have found Humphreys to be the most dishonest of all our CEO's. He is like a very good used car salesman. Noycie was a bit more honest where he would play dumb a bit more.

What about the media's role in flaming these rumors? Not once has anyone from the Tigers come out and said that Heighington is not wanted. The Daily Telegraph has come out on several occasions and said that Heighington has been told to look for a better deal and thus far he is not in negotiations with anyone because contrary to what the Telegraph will tell you, he has not been given permission to negotiate. That tells me he is still wanted by this club.

Nil obligation as fans are not shareholders. Any news is move of a goodwill gesture to fans to entice them to renew memberships, attend games buy merchandise etc. However, in the end, they don't have to tell us anything.

Another thought provoking post Alf. You seem to be thriving on this forum.

Again Gary Bakerloo you have hung your dirty washing out on this forum. You are still bitter over your feud with the Penn brothers and ownership of the Sea Eagles. All NRL clubs should be accountable to their stakeholders i.e. THE FANS. It is not a secret society like you and your blazing wearing ex - colleagues of the NSWRL would have you think.
Keep posting Alf, the truth is out there.

I think that the clubs are all accountable to their fans. We are the customers and they are the business and if we the customers are feeling in the dark or disconnected to what the business is providing then the business will fail.

Its a pretty simple way of looking at it but thats what it comes down to.

Ed - your post amuses me because if I remember correctly, you and your prehistoric colleagues had quite a different view at various meetings of the supposed "secret society" held during the late 90's. I prefer to assess circumstances from an objective point of view where you have delusions of grandeur and think football clubs are some altruistic vehicle that anyone can access. It does work like that in reality as brands have to be maintained.

Gary and Ed - did you guys used to be married?

Anyway, I doubt that WT would have admitted to anything to do with Rhino had he not been sprung having a meeting with Gus. Once this made its way to the Tele the Tigers had no choice but to give the rumour a certain degree of credibility.

In short, I think the club would prefer to keep all this behind closed doors however in this age of Twitter and Smart Phones that is near impossible.

Yes Bakerwho? Lets not get personal. Why is it that you only ever made touch judge? That should be made public knowledge. I remember what Roy told Micky P to do to you if you ran in with your flag up in 77.

I think we ought to remember that there are times where it is contrary to the club's interest to conduct its business in public. I'm sure they would love to be able to say "don't worry, we are losing some players but we are also in discussions with W, X, Y and Z and hope to have two of them at the club next year." Even if they don't think they 'owe' the fans anything it would help keep attendances and revenue up in an increasingly crappy season by reassuring fans that there is a brighter future. But that would give leverage to agents - they get a clear idea of where the club is in its recruiting plans and are able to extract more for their clients as a result. I'm not saying they're perfect but there is some logic in keeping quiet.

It is nothing out of the ordinary, the NSWRL just made a raft of (stupid) changes to referees in the late 70's and brought up all some hopeless reserve graders. I still think the touch judges today can't judge a penalty kick to save themselves, they are always 5m out.

I think you are referring to 1981 (not 1977), but who knows….

Obviously you didnt hear humphreys own interview on the saturday in a feeble disgrace saying that dwyer was fine and he didnt know what all the fuss is about.Royal North shore will tell you something differently. The guys nothing but a two dollar politician.

Honestly- if the only rumours we heard were Adam Blair joining, Pat Richards coming back & Skando coming out of retirement- we'd all be stupidly excited & happy. If the information came from Bryce's twitter, or Liam's facebook page- we'd be all "It's official! Hooray for the age of technology!".

Fact is- the Tigers are on the recieving end of some 'not as great' rumours coming out in the media. Therefore we now curse the newspapers, the players & likely the football gods as a result.

I have no problem with the information coming out. In today's day & age- information moves fast- faster than we've experienced previously, and from many outlets. There are no secrets, at least- not for long.

Only way to stop this stupid mid-season carnage is to remove mid-season signings. Make all signings to be made during the offseason- problem solved.

If the rumours aren' t true, why not just say so. That is just one particular case anyway

I'm also waiting for some significant news (as stated by the CEO) that is now well overdue

Thanks Gary for your support. I'm all about provoking the thought and hopefully encourage some insightful dialogue amongst some of the inane ramblings. I think your encouragement will spur me on to greatness

Are you expecting the club to announce signings prior to putting pen to paper?

If I owned the Tigers outright and they did that I'd be asking for heads to roll.

Two dollar politician that has made our jersey the most valuable in the league, that gave our club stability, that signed Lote Tuquiri and signed a major back of the jersey sponsor in Hyundai. To imply that he would lie about the health of one of his players is ridiculous in the extreme.

What was that noise? Oh it was your credibility heading out the window!
