Why is Ava's last name pronounced with a 'n' sound? I thought the commentators were getting it wrong initally, but dont think so anymore. Woulda though it was seumanufaGai with a hard g. Or is that how g's are pronounced by Maori's. Kind of like the obvious, WHakatane
Ava is Samoan, not Maori
Samoans will always have a G that sounds like 'ng' as in seumanufagai, fa'alogo, lagi setu etc.
Pretty sure Tagatese is being pronounced wrong, should be Tangatese, but I might not be right on that
If its spelt out ng then they are most likely Tongan. Ie mosese pangai is Tongan I suspect
The above would be true in 99.9% of cases but don't take it as an absolute rule
Whakatane is actually pronounced 'faka', there are heaps of Tongan words starting in 'faka' and I think 'fa'a' is the Samoan equivalent
