Memories

Greetings all, as mentioned previously I am starting a new thread where we can reminisce, analyse and review past players and what, if anything, they contributed to the WT story.
Wests, Balmain or other clubs are all part of our fabric.
Hope this is a worthwhile exercise for those of us who lived through different eras.
Obviously responses will probably be spasmodic but anytime you are going back in time, this is the place,
Cheers. HB61

Ok, I’ve got a question about a past player, Vic
Querin from the 70s. Anyone know what’s happened to him.
Last time I saw him was at Juliana’s nightclub at the Hilton belting the “ s.,t” out of a poor, drunk individual.
I hope he’s moved on from there !

A football story of sorts. Wests used to have a centre named Roy Ferguson, a gun player who later played for the Dragons. One night in the early 70s my mates and I were at a pub at The Rocks. One of my mates said that a girl at the bar kept staring at me. I should have known he was having me on because this girl was a full-on glam. I went over and started talking to her. She was really nice but said she was there with her boyfriend and he was the jealous type. Being no fool I said my goodbyes and headed back to my mates.
About 30 seconds later I looked up and who is walking towards me but Roy Ferguson,. I put my hand out to shake hands and was about to tell him how much I enjoyed watching him play. Without any fanfare he grabbed me by the collar, lifted me six inches off the ground and told me if I ever went near his girlfriend again he'd cave my head in for me. We agreed he was dispensing good advice and parted company. My mates thought it was the funniest thing they'd ever seen.
I never really liked Roy after that.

Thanks for originating this thread. Hal, are memories limited to the Wests and Balmain era and players? What about a coach? There seems a lot of moaning going on in The Spoon thread. Perhaps it is better filed in the memories thread.

That’s the one ! Now, is he still with us and if so what was/is his story.

I checked f/b and found this from Larry Corowa, dated March 23 - sad news, Vic has passed away.

"Sorry to hear of the passing of Balmain Tigers player of the 70s Vic Querin first met Vic in 78’ played touch, euchre and socialised with the crew back then , nicknamed the ape was a great bloke and friend, never a dull moment around him ..may you RIP Vic ..

Yep, Tui Lolohea.

Very skilled and talented,
Overweight though.
That’s it, and a fair goal kicker from what I can remember.
Yes, I think he was the original owner of the Leilua burger/ KFC diet and Joey carried it on.

Thanks for the info mate, gotta say I’m somewhat surprised he lasted that long.
But he did play in a time where tough was tough, no jumper grabbing in those days.
Balmain had a good year in 77 but then hit some dark days( sound familiar).
May he RIP.

Mate you can write about anyone you like( long as it’s not rude). We want our lady WTF members to share their memories as well.
