Mick Potter/2SM

He kept things under raps really..hard to graspe what he was saying as was very different to sheens in conversation. He was asked about our lack of props and he backed the guys up well.
Also saying BMM and Thompson have been training well

Potter Q & A on 2SM
TS: What's the challenge with the Wests Tigers?
MP: I suppose the challenge is probably just tightening up our defense from last year & I don't think they were far off the mark. They were within 1/10 of being in the 8 if you like, if you break it down as far as how many try's they conceded to being in the 8 was probably 1/10 of a try per match or something. So it wasn't much in it, so there's still some work to do & I think just tempering our play at times might help that.
TS: I just read the team out for this weekend's trial & I've noticed Woods on the injured list is indefinitely, can you expand upon that for tigers fans?
MP: He just tweaked his knee at training & I don't even think there was any contact, he hyper extended his knee slightly. He's just seeing the doctor this afternoon & he is going to get a MRI as a precaution, it's just a little bit swollen & the physio doesn't seem that concerned but we haven't got a definite answer & that's why we put him down as indefinite.
TS: With the under 20's winning the competition last year, you've got some good young players coming through the system?
MP: There's certainly a whole batch off them & that's something to look forward too in the future.
TS: You've got Adam Blair last year & a couple of guys had to make way to fit him into the club, he would of been disappointed with his season as a lot of Wests Tigers supporters would of been disappointed as well. There's obviously high hopes that he can regain that form that he played for the storm?
MP: He's a quality player Adam & if any thing to go by on how he's been training, he's been leading by example, he's doing everything right, he's the most physical at training, he's the most professional & I think he's setting himself for a big year.
TS: Jacob Miller is he going to get first crack at the 7 jersey?
MP: Yeah, Jacob's been training very well since xmas, he had a hernia operation to have a groin release prior to xmas. So we didn't get to have a look at him before that but he has been going very well & I'm happy with him, we'll see how he lines up when we start the real stuff.
TS: What about the Ayshford/Lawrence combo Mick, will that still be the same or will Ayshford one day find himself, doing some duties in the back row?
MP: Well he's big enough to play back row & so is Chris but their fast enough, with the ability to beat people & also to set up their outside players, so I'm happy for them to stay in the centre's at the moment.
TS: What about the fact everyone seems to have an opinion on the Wests Tigers?
MP: That's probably the beauty of the game, everyone likes the way that the tiger's play & they play a little bit expansive. They tend to be that club that get's wedged in the middle & the meat in the sandwich where everyone talks about them but there never quite sure what's going to happen.
TS: Is there a concern up front with Matt Groat to miss a fair slice of the season?
MP: Not really, I'm comfortably with Woods, Galloway & there's a couple of young guys coming through, we have Shaun Spence coming back, Matt Bell there who can play front row at a pinch. So we have a little bit of back up there & I'm quite comfortable where we are at the moment.
TS: You had a great career here, you have coached in England, what's the difference in coming back & how do you see it as a coach?
MP: Probably I have more resources here, more people available to cover more things. I'm not water boy filler up'er & I'm not masseur, I'm not football manager, I've got other people to do all that sort of stuff for me. Also the noticeable difference is the standard right through the grades of personnel, the skill level is above overall what it is in England. It's just weight of numbers, it's a bigger game here rather than over there where soccer is the biggest sport, so they get the cream of the athlete's if you like.
TS: A lot of people think with the guy's you've lost this year, it will make it harder for you to make an impression on the competition but I take it your not bothered with who you've got & your going to work with who turns up?
MP: Yeah but I want the best possible player's we can have, I think we have got a reasonable roster. I don't think they are the least bit shabby & we are setting our sites on winning as many games as we can & I think we can do that. I believe that the players have worked hard & I hope it's going to pay dividends through the season.
TS: I never saw anything about it, but I would imagine Lote Tuqiri has agreed to terms for 1 year & is he still suffering from his broken arm he had at the back end of the season?
MP: His arm hasn't fully healed as far as I know at this stage, he's not in full contact. He started some semi contact if you like, were he's allowed to bump people without being taken to ground. He's started a weights program in full now, so were just waiting for that last CT scan that it's healed to a percentage the doctor is satisfied with that he can start full contact.
TS: As a fan have I got pretty big hopes on Pettybourne & BMM? (Robbo)
MP: Both of those players are good young players coming through, I think BMM has been here 3 years if I'm not mistaken & Bodene Thompson can play centre & back row at a pinch. There both been going very well at training, I'm happy with them & they both will get a run & feature on the weekend.

Thanks for the transcription weststigers4life, appreciate it. Hopefully Potter's training regime can improve the defence this year. I really don't want to see a repeat of some of the soft line breaks and tries the Tigers conceded last year.

Ok we are talking the talk

Now I want to see us walk the walk

Lets hope Woodsy's injury is only minor , but I don't like the sound of the swelling to be honest

Woodsy will be back by round 1, don't fret! And the tigers will be back to a top 4 finish this season i reckon, bar any major injuries. Really like the feeling that potter has brought as well as them u20s making the older guys work their asses off to get a spot in the 17\. Doggies finished 9th in 2010, who's to say we cant go from 10th to 4th?

Just my take but he sounded like a person where reality has just sunk in,its going to be a tough season for a rookie coach but fingers crossed Blair & Benji come good. I think we have a good early season draw,Newcastle-Penrith-Eels before running into Manly & the Storm, hope we can get away with 2 wins(or better) from the first 3 otherwise its going to be a long long season.

Definitely. A rebuilding year with an eye on the roster for 2014\. Semi finals would be welcome bonus .
