Miller..Gone

I have concerns for the future of Brooks if he is forced to play Benji ball like so many in the past have been.

Yep. Im no fan of Anasta but id rather Brooks come through with BRaith at 6 and Benji left right out.

Miller was the best we had. So much for putting faith in the kid. The boys' club strikes again.

I guess you've not seen him play. The reality is we have Benji, Sirro and with Brooks & Moses coming through some one had to go. As much as I like Milky he is the least desirable from that list. When you add to the equation the kids we have coming through we just can't keep everyone. We will see a lot more promising kids going elsewhere over the next couple of years, hopefully we can identify the cream to keep.

Based on current form, Benji strikes me as the least desirable.

It frustrates me, and I am guessing a lot of other fans, that we are so close to signing Benji on another 4 year deal – are we supposed to just wait and hope he hits form again? What exactly is the basis they are signing Benji on?

Probably the only big name willing to sign with us ,pity he can't play

Obviously this opens the door for Brooks. I wouldn't pull the trigger just yet though. This yr is a lost cause with or without him so i wouldn't throw him to the wolves just yet. Give him the rest of the yr to get use to playing with men in NSW cup then give him the whole off season to train with the boys and get use to Farah and Marshall

No surprise this has happened really. Suggests long term at least that both Brooks and Moses are rated higher prospects than Miller. To let him go now is to say that they're comfy with their other options. I still wouldn't predict Brooks' arrival any time soon. Once we get a few troops back and Brooks has adjusted to State Cup you would suggest the time would be right.

I don't see why you would release depth in this circumstance.

I would assume this means young Brooks will see out the year in State Cup

I'd have much preferred Miller and Sirro in the halves against the Bulldogs than a half fit Marshall. It was the one opportunity that Potter had to see what Miller could do when he was the dominant halves partner and rushed Marshall back who did near on nothing.

The reality also is that of those four names you have listed, only one is a legitimate half, and he's untested. Benji, Moses and Sirro are all five eighths (I'd even struggle to label Sirro as a five eighth.) So now we have only one halfback, and there's no suggestion that he'll even play FG this year.

We had Miller for the year, it looks as though Potter may keep Brooks on ice, don't know why there was a rush to toss him to the side when the bulk of the side is under performing.

Good on Milky though, hope it was a good contract and he tears it up in the ESL.

Any chance we may do a swap for a Hull player ??

Good point re Friday. I was also looking forward to him playing without Marshall and with the familiarity of Sironen. The call was that Marshall was the better option. I actually feared Marshall doing his pinky toe again, but it ended up worse as he put in the most insipid performance imaginable.

Going by all those names, it is clear he is down the pecking order. Potter retained him to make his own decision and this is where we have arrived. The ESL could be good for his career. Maybe the thought is that he is not up to NRL, but too good for State Cup and needs something in between. He could return to the NRL a much better player and perhaps with living in another country, more wiser.

The other player in the long term equation is Kitt. Does Brooks moving into State Cup mean that Kitt is in the starting halves for under 20's? Have also heard positive views on his potential.

Doesn't make sense last years under 20s SOO halfback starts his career in Super League. Can't help but feel there's more to this story than Brooks and Sironen. Seems there wasn't much opportunity given to find his confidence in first grade. For a team so desperate for halves for so long, it's a concern how capable we are of supporting the transition of rising stars. Lets hope Brooks is so good he doesn't need that nurturing…

We have tried a lot of no7 in recent times and really dont think Miller was any better and any worse than the others. Also Iam not privy to what the coaches were asking him to do or any off field issues, but from the outside without any background info,to me it seems he got a rough deal.Moltzen was dead set terrible at no7 before doing his knee,Benji has been very average most times he has put the no7 on and Anasta is not a no7, but they were never hung out to dry.

As posted before, the boys club is live and well

Best thing for Miller. This club has been stuffing him around for 2 years now. Sheens and now Potter have treated him like crap and I don't blame him for wanting out. I wish him all the best

Good young halves are as rare as hen's teeth, so the fact he couldn't hook up with another NRL club probably justifies Potter's decision.

He apparently received some feelers from a few clubs last year (how serious, I dont know), bu they obviously weren't serious enough for him to be picked up by another NRL club.

Good luck to Jacob.

Genuine question: is it possible the club is jettisoning a player it gambles it can live without to free up cap room for some short-term reinforcements to an injury-ravaged squad? I'm not saying that would be a good thing, just wonder if it's a possibility.

Considering that it was reported we had gone to the NRL for cap exemptions because of injury, it makes sense we would be letting go of some players at this point.

Miller seemed to be on the outer. Brooks was just promoted up a grade, Anasta/Sirro were both chosen ahead of him, and with him off contract this year it makes sense to let him go to free up room, especially if he wanted out (no idea if he did though). It would be nice to have something go down without hearing the usual of "oh Benji/Robbie are running the team" or "boys club strikes again", thats never been anything other than fan speculation yet its spoken about in here as if its truth.

Good luck to him, he will kill it in ESL.

So is Daniel Holdsworth….but I doubt many NRL teams would have him....

Good luck to Milky....he obviously struck a raw nerve with Potter and the Senior players...obviously the issues he had with Sheens carried over to Potter.... what's the common denominator?
