Miller

Anyone who thinks millers role will be different to moltzens are delusional, it doesn't matter who they put in the 7 they will conform to Marshall and farahs commands in the game. Moltzen best suits the current structure in place and in about 6-8 weeks you will see it and be wondering why u ever doubted it

I think Ink has it spot on. Give him a season in senior footy at NSW Cup level and see where he is after that. He'll either improve some aspects of his game that need to be improved or he won't. So long as he knows what he needs to do it isn't a bad move.

This.

Moltzen is still young too. Marshall and Farah aren't anymore, (relatively of course) but it's not as if Time is running out here.

Well someone in this club needs a good kick up the rear to allow this to happen… Those 2 didnt seem to have too much on Friday after the big Manly forwards started going through the middle!

Moltzen is only 23 and farah and marshall 27 and once Teddy is fit he will be 20 still a long time nucleus there.

What playmakers would. It's not their jobs to stop the oppositions forwards

Lui was given more latitude

I never said it was there job to 'stop' the Manly forwards… But it is there jobs to send our forwards forward. It is there job to ensure we build momentum through the ruck. It is there job to kick for good field posession, and It is there job to build to a structured platform in attack.

Having brainfarts on the 3rd tackle is something I'd expect from a winger!

If the 7 is responding to the commands of the Benji and Robbie isn't this going to cause great confusion What Farah may see and what Benji may see could be two completely different attacking options and sticking any 7 between that would be madness

If this is the issue Benji HAS to be the 7 He is the chief play maker in the side and then have Moltzen at 6 as a running 6

My only issue with this is why did we run Lui for so long like this if we still wanted Benji and Farah still calling the shots ??

Why not play Moltzen at 7 last season then

Am I losing the plot or does that just completely make no sense at all ??

Farah and Marshall are our playmakers and run the show now- end of story.
Just the same as Cronk and Smith do for Melbourne they decide when they want the ball.
They were both a lot younger and inexperienced when Prince was here to hold the reins.
Now everybody else learns how to adjust to the way they play (not easy in Marshalls case).
As captain Farah needs to be freed up to be a little more creative from dummy half and override Marshalls calls sometimes.
Although Marshall always thinks he can score everytime he touches the ball the reality is he can't- can someone please tell him?.

I'm thinking if its all going to be Farah & Marshall, Marshall must play the 7 role and get to first reciever more often than not… This might help Moltzen fit in more just playing his natural style at 6.

Kingston and Walsh showed what you need to do to win matches at this stage of the season. We are playing across the paddock with very little go forward. I say lots of dashes out of dummy half are needed to get the team powering forward than when you have the other team retreating thats when Benji apply s the magic

CK You used Melbourne as an example .Now lets put what we are doing to Moltzen .Smith at Hooker ,Widdup at half and Cronk at 6

They would crash and burn like we are

Widdup and Moltzen are extremely similiar footballers Both have played fullback and are primarily running footballers who can play as a playmaker but they are secondary to Smith and Cronk .

If Smoking Gun is right that we are playing with Marshall and Farah calling all the shots Benji has to be 7 and Moltzen at 6 Like Melbourne do with great success

Happy, the numbers on their back don't have to dictate where they stand in attack. Benji will be first receiver more often than not and will call the shots.

The only time when this changes is at a scrum…...where the hooker stands at lock and the winger and fullback pack into the second row.

TS i do understand that (well not the fullback at 2nd row in attack , your fullback should be left to help create an overlap )

But I can't see the use in mixing it up between Marshall and Moltzen and we would be far more effective with Miller in the team in that case as he can play from dummy half and let Benji and Farah combine from 1st and 2nd reciever from time to time which will create more chances outside of Marshall and create more space

And we would have a far more effective kicking game with miller in the side

Thirdly it would help us with our fullback crisis as well with moltz back there

That is a hell of a lot of positives in my opinion

But again this is based on the fact that the Tigers are relying solely as having Marshall and Farah as our sole playmakers

You're right there Smurf.
That's the point I was trying to make - the playmakers dictate the play.
Anybody thinking Moltzen (or anybody else playing half) would be calling the shots instead of Marshall is dreaming.
Pretty much as Campese calls the shots from 5/8 for Canberra.
Usually you aim at getting someone to complement that playmaker and , of course , on occassion they need to take some iniative.
Happy is right in a way too though - if Marshall plays at first receiver why not wear the 7.
Then we could judge Moltzen ( or Miller ) as a 6.

We listened all last season to dialogue about Lui rightly being in the side to take some heat off our #9 and #6\. Believe it or not there are many times when Benji and Robbie don't/shouldn't have a play happening. This is exactly where Miller would slot in by organising - it's what he does naturally. And as a bonus he can kick when necessary.

As for putting him into state cup for a year, he is a very confident young bloke who wants to go places which is why he came here. Although he is towing the line now, every month that goes by is probably another month he is dissapointed at not playing NRL and someone will offer him a gig.

Sheens maybe forced to like him if the present set up continues to struggle. **Although I have said before its very hard for a new no7 to standout in a team that is firing on one cylinder.** As a team we are well off the required pace but its very early days

Blake Lazarus anyone?

Had a few beers with Blakey on Saturday night at a bar in COOGEE. Sadly he has retired, but jets trying to entice him back..

Cheers HT, I would love to see Miller get a proper go but I have a bad feeling about it. All indicators are that Moltzen won't be moved back to the #1, which leaves Miller out in the cold barring more injuries.
