If this club is to be successful, if our NRL team is to be successful, they should start focusing on being Tigers!
Firstly, let me preface this by saying, it's got nothing to do with Balmain Tigers & Wests Magpies. It's about who we are as a club & who our players represents. We are Tigers! One of the fiercest predators on the planet, top of the food chain just below humans, one of the most popular brand marks in Australian (even world sport).
Yet our club has hardly ever acted like Tigers!
I'm not being fruity here lol hear me out please.
It is evident our NRL team is and has been perceived for a long time as soft, cannot deal with adversity, 90% of the time lose the forwards battle, are basically cannon fodder for opposition fans & media, our players look down rather than angry when they lose. I am sick of it like all of you are.
We can bring in new coaches, new players, new CEOs, even new board members, but when has our footy team actually changed in how it believes & is perceived. Maybe the first few rounds this year!
I'm calling for a mindset shift which has to be club wide & from the top down but ultimately driven on the playing & training field by the playing group.
They need to be Tigers!
They need that to embed it in their minds that they are predators, they hunt with ferocity, they hunt in packs, they chase & attack, they have arrogance of being at the top of the pack, they protect each other from attacks. If they lose, they return bigger & stronger with new tactics. Home games, we protect the jungle & make it hard for our enemies to escape alive. Away games, we ambush the opposition quickly without them seeing what's coming!
Ok it sounds silly but I'm fair dinkum, anyone who plays for the WT, works for the WT, needs to be inducted into the way of the Tiger. That includes coaches driving it into the players pre-game to hunt in packs, devour the opposition, be smart etc etc ... no more slow softly, softly starts, we fight fire with Tigers!
This is a notion that can right through the club into pathways into fan engagement into branding. We want kids loving Tigers, wanting to be Tigers, seeing the animal in us.
If a player is getting tired out on the field or passive, a team mate puts up the Tiger call and it means something. It means to lift, it means 110% effort, it means to fight for eachother.
I am sick of our NRL team being passive losers, I want our team to be Tigers! It doesn't mean winning every game, it means playing like real Tigers and we will be proud!
