Mitchell Moses #175

Have to believe it's Parra who are under pressure now. Clearly if he wanted to play for us he would have signed. The only thing interesting now is how far Parra are prepared to go before they say take it or leave it

If he really wanted to be the player to lead us to the holy grail he would have signed months ago. The two Moses will not let up until Parra gives into their demands. Walk away now with some dignity and let Parra’s cap bleed away.

I can actually see a third team like the Dogs getting the bacon. Anyway time to look at plan B

I'd love the dogs to get him. Just wanna see the eels fans reaction

$1.4M/season over 5 years seems crazy but what other choice do we have?

It is simple. You tell Moses you are not interested and you stay sane and still have enough money to get a top end player. If we are stupid enough to sign him you cripple our salary cap for years and get a half hearted player to the club who only cares about himself.
It is not even a difficult decision as we are hoping to keep good young players we have coming through to give us a good future.Spending that sort of money on Moses will make sure many of them will go to clubs like the rorters and dogs and once again our future will be destroyed.

You're completely right we need to have a long term plan in place instead of trying to fix things in one season.

Get a couple of 700k a year players to enhance our squad rather than have 1.4 mill tied up in one player

Every team that has won a GF has one (or more) of those +$1m players. Cleary, Thurston, Cronk/Tedescco, Munster etc.

We just need to be smart next time and not let our quality juniors go, then we don't need to sell the sheep station to pay to get them back.

Give him the extra year. Who cares if we stuff ourselves for 1 year if it finally gets us playing finals for 3-4! Our next big hope apparently is Large and he'll be around 21 by the time a 5 year deal expires.

He makes our side better, I'd pay but ask to stop with the bullsht and sign the dotted line on the spot, if not algood see ya
I agree with that, I’d call him in and say we will offer X amount of an increase (money and extra year) on the original proposal.
However, for this to happen you have to sign now. You will not be able to go back to Parramatta to use this increase as a bidding war.
If you choose not to sign today, the original offer stands.
Who knows maybe Parra will offer something similar.

Correct in regards to supply and demand, except real estate doesn’t get injuries, lose its pace, have a downhill slide as it ages, etc. so maybe not like real estate?
Anyway what ever you invest in do it thoughtfully, especially when you’re committing most of your stake for a number of years in an overpriced acquisition.
Man Innsaneink nailed it with his quote "
Worth, and what the market dictates are two very different things, much like real estate
Supply and demand is a myth. Literally that diagram you read in high school is a made up joke, no maths no idea. (the actual maths is max profit = dy/dx or even 2nd derivative).

Innsaneink's point though is very true. Moses isn't worth 1.4m a season. Yet there is a shortage of Halfbacks, so the market dictates a higher value for him.

Likewise Chad Townsend. Chad is really not a superstar halfback, but gets the job done. Cowboys pay top dollar just to get an Adequate halfback on the books, just to get the job done. Many people questioned 1M for Townsend, yet the Cowboys got exactly what they needed.

I am glad we dodged Moses, particularly for the reasons you mention too. Injuries, loss of pace/performance, why would the Moses + Brooks combo work now, etc.
a massive risk we would be locked into for 5 years.

In fact if we are going to take risks like that, why not Mitchell Pearce for a year or two? He would be the equivalent of Moses on the last 2x years of his contract.

I dunno, if 1.4m is really our offer - and if it's as insane as everyone thinks, how can Mitch turn it down? Like how badly do you not want to be here....

FWIW, I don't think 1.4m on the new cap is that crazy - not for a player that will change our club. Good halves are hard to come by, and he's at an age where he would help us transition our young halves into first grade.

What’s Pearce doing these days?
