Mitchell Moses #175

Man Innsaneink nailed it with his quote "

Supply and demand is a myth. Literally that diagram you read in high school is a made up joke, no maths no idea. (the actual maths is max profit = dy/dx or even 2nd derivative).

Innsaneink's point though is very true. Moses isn't worth 1.4m a season. Yet there is a shortage of Halfbacks, so the market dictates a higher value for him.

Likewise Chad Townsend. Chad is really not a superstar halfback, but gets the job done. Cowboys pay top dollar just to get an Adequate halfback on the books, just to get the job done. Many people questioned 1M for Townsend, yet the Cowboys got exactly what they needed.

I am glad we dodged Moses, particularly for the reasons you mention too. Injuries, loss of pace/performance, why would the Moses + Brooks combo work now, etc.
a massive risk we would be locked into for 5 years.

In fact if we are going to take risks like that, why not Mitchell Pearce for a year or two? He would be the equivalent of Moses on the last 2x years of his contract.
You just contradicted yourself and clearly didn't understand the supposed"diagram at high school"

Shortage/scarcity of supply = Higher price is a BASIC RULE rule of supply and demand

I agree ...but I guess what does 700 k get you halves wise

Doeuhi is on how much .....550 k reportedly .....700 may not get much better
Halves-wise what is available for US to sign is dire.
At this point there is nothing out there realistically available for us to sign for market value dollars.
We keep what we have and improve everything else around it to make it a more attractive proposition in the future

I don't care about the price for him. What I don't like is the 5th year. No way should we offer anything over 4 years.

Get a couple of 700k a year players to enhance our squad rather than have 1.4 mill tied up in one player
Look, I disagree with this usually as you end up with Fringe Graders.
Not talking Moses in particular, our recruitment in General.

The 700k players we signed were James Roberts and BJ Leulia. Had our pitch for Latrell Mitchell went ahead, we would have been a better side. A way better side. OK 1m for Latrell would have been enormous, but it is the way to go.

Easts, Manly, Storm prove a point. It is better to build a team with a few very high class 1m top tier players and then build fringe graders into first graders. Then to build a team that a "big 17" and expect Average players to lift to superstars.

A top 8 berth and brand damage from off field drama.
Mitchell Pearce.

Yes he had off field dramas, Compared to Mitchell Moses and what the players are doing at Parramatta, we ain't see OffField Dramaz!

I don't see the right attitude from a bunch of players there. Gutho, Matterson, Moses. Whatever MP has done at some party, is nothing in comparison.

I’d prefer to throw $1.2 at Sua’ili’i.
Why?

and Why now? Particularly why now.
His management has said he will go to the highest bidder. Okay, so are we running for a grand final/top 4 birth in 2023? No.

Save our pennies, buy Sua'ili'i when we go "we want to go to the finals and need a gun player for a year or two and we have cash to burn.

Let Easts eat their cap trying to keep him in the meantime.

Every team that has won a GF has one (or more) of those +$1m players. Cleary, Thurston, Cronk/Tedescco, Munster etc.

We just need to be smart next time and not let our quality juniors go, then we don't need to sell the sheep station to pay to get them back.

Give him the extra year. Who cares if we stuff ourselves for 1 year if it finally gets us playing finals for 3-4! Our next big hope apparently is Large and he'll be around 21 by the time a 5 year deal expires.
Maybe Lee could Start negotiating and get us a 2 million dollar player double the chance to win the GF
