I think the backline will/should be:

1 McKinnon
2 Lote
3 Ayshford
4 Lawrence
5\. Brown/Daniella/TNT
6\. Benji
7\. Moltzen
14\. Lui

i personally think if Moltz is 7 Lui will be in NSW Cup..
I dont think they will use him as a reserve.

If Lui is 7 i think Ayshford will move to Forwards (maybe as a 14) and Moltz into Centres.

This is what I see

1\. Moltzen
2\. Lote
3\. Lawrence
4\. Ashyford
5\. Tuiaki/Brown/Ryan
6\. Benji
7\. Lui

17\. Brown/Ryan

thanks for slamming my debut thread then contributing to it…im slighly confused though...lol

Not quite sure why people see Moltz a shot in the centers. Daniella is a better option if Ayshford moves.

Moltz has to be in the 17 and the only place he fits is halfback without weakening a position imo. Like most have suggested and also, being a Bug fan… I'm expecting Moltz to start halfback next season with Lui in the reserves. Lui played well towards the tail end of the season (finals plus 2 or 3 before) no doubt, but Moltzens turn of pace is unmatched and this is an area of Luis game which really lets him down imo and will the clincher for the halfback position.

Lui was backup for Moltzen... Moltzen will start ahead of him and Brown and McKinnon will battle out for the FB spot if TNT is back round 1\. If anything I like the idea of having Brown as the back on the bench. Can cover 1 - 5 and slot into the backrow if need be.

i like your thinking kaiser..except..the idea of brown being in the back row…stuart tried that and it failed miserably...if TNT is out id like to see him get the wing spot ahead of ryan..

If Lui is the so-called back-up to Moltz - why did he get the no. 7 jersey for Rd 1 of 2010 with Tim at fullback????

While we have stregthened our fullback options for 2011 with Wade & Mitch now established there - the fact remains that Lui was our first choice halfback in Rd 1 of 2010 - not the back-up!!!

Since then he has improved as a player so to write him off as second string is ridiculous!

It was mentioned that Moltzen had put on an extra 3kg of muscle which would put him up around the 90kg mark. Not huge by any standards, but bigger than both Ryan and Daniela.

Ill leave Ryan out of the argument because i dont think he comes into contention against Moltzen as i doubt Ryan will come into contention for any position other than wing.

U mention the weight Moltzen has put on, and this will be an interesting factor. Yes he will be bigger than Daniela, but often u find players can be bigger but they dont play as physical. Thats the reason i have my doubts about Molzten as a centre, he jus doesnt play the physical game needed to be a centre. He runs good lines and has nice hands, but he doesnt pose any danger physically. If he can get down and dirty, than maybe he could make it as a centre, but i have Ayshford well ahead of him.

I cant help but think the worst thing for Tim Moltzen is that he's a tiger. If he was at another club, he'd be the walk in as a 5/8 and be pushing for rep honours. He can handle fullback and halfback, but the kid is a dead set 5/8.

Moltzen played FB because we had noone else to play there… people argued for Meaney and few other fellas early on, but they were clearly not in Tims plans.

Regardless of your position, I still believe the halfback position is stronger with Tim in it. With someone like Benji at 5/8, the defensive teams will always underestimate who is wearing the 7 and expect the ball to go to him as often as possible. Moltzen exploited sides who were lazy and did this when he straightened up and went right through the line. With a smart fullback this means we are not just a threat out wide. Lui's doesn't have the pace to do this... I've said this before, but he is surely the slowest halfback I have seen.

So, as I said.... why weaken a position, when you can strengthen another just to fit both blokes in the side?

Moltz to the Centers = Weakened as they are stronger with Lawrences, Ayshford and Daniealla
Moltz to Fullback = Weakened, as it's stronger with Brown or McKinnon
Moltz to Halfback = Stronger, as he offers more in the position than Lui.

He's big enough to handle it should injuries hurt the side… thats all I am saying. Offers more utility.
