Moltzen-Half Back or Fullback implications for others

I know Moltzen has been the topic of way too many threads this past 12 months. However it occured to me that where Moltzen plays really has a huge influence on the opportunities of others. Rather than say where I think he should play I thought I woudl highlight the implications for others.

Obviously it effects Miller most (assuming Lui is gone)- If Moltz gets is selected at fullback, Miller has an NRL career at his feet.. If Moltz plays half, it basically means they dont feel that Miller is ready, given that it is unlkely that they will want to move MOltz again at the end of next year, where does that leave Miller….WIll he have to move on to get an NRL gig..or will Moltz change clubs or positions.

On the same track if Moltz plays fullback, altho it opens the door for Miller, it condems Brown for another year as the fill in, unless there is a long term injury he wont get much game time. Another year with little to no NRL would be very damaging for Brown's career and could end it.

If Moltz plays half, it opens an opportunity for one of Brown, humble or Grant. If Grant is the choice, I imagine he will play wing and one of Tuquiri or Beau will be the fullback. (unless we go left field with Marshall or Lawrence or alike) I see all of these as short term with Tedessco likely to be the long term solution.

If Moltz is fullback, what happens at the end of the season for Tedessco?? Given how hard we have fought to keep Moltz, can't imagine us giving him up next year. We would have just spent a season developing Miller, cant imagine them moving Moltz to half to accomodate Tedessco.

Alot of players are affected by what they do with Moltzen.

Despite what the Anti Moltz fans think, he will be in the starting team, in one of those spots.

They're the main options at this stage. Once the off-season ballwork starts then we may start to see which direction Sheens heads in with the half/fullback.

And just because the Tigers are prepared to keep Moltzen for 2012, does not mean they'll look to keep him beyond that period. Tedesco may not get a run next season, he'll only be 18, but his talent is undeniable and 2013 could be his big chance.

I'd give Moltzen another year at Fullback and buy a suitable 7 until Miller is ready. Moltzen at 7 is a no go zone in my eyes as its so obvious he isnt suited to the Farah/Marshall structure. If Blair is going to be used as a wide forward for the main part of the 80 minutes, again I dont see it working. I truely believe Moltzen is the perfect 14, and I believe a very very talented 14 is a valuable/integral asset to any NRL Team.

Its hard to tell how much James Tedesco will develop in body mass considering how young he is, but I feel he will be at least 2 years away from a starting position. While I wont be suprised to see him get a few runs next year, If the plan is to bring Tedesco into the team for 2013, he should be sent to NSW Cup for at least half a season first. Same goes for Miller.

Brown? Well, Moltzen has 3 times the talent than him so its a no brainer. NSW Cup or NRL back-up is where he fits in, and thats it… If he was anything more, 15 NRL Clubs would be looking for a cheap signature!

Imo Reddy will either be used as the bench utility or will become another Sheens project and play in the forwards (probably also from the bench)

sometimes when players are leaving a club, they put in consistently good performances, to show the club what they will be missing out on. Once their future is secure they back off.
Its the same when their contracts are up for renewal.
who know if this is the case here.

as long as Tim Moltzen plays to his potential, runs the ball back hard and contests when ball is in the air, he will be good at fullback.

it really does not matter what we think, where Tim should be in the squad.

it is what the coach decides, that will shape wests-tigers destiny for season 2012.

i say bypass the implications and put the best player in each position. dont forget injuries. dont take for granted that our team will not be injury free.the best thing is that maybe all those players you mentioned will have their time to shine, for others it'll be 2013.

When you boil this one down it really comes down to one question:
Who has the most potential to be a gun 1st grader, Miller @7 or Tedesco @1????
Or do you give moltzen more experience in different positions so he does become that gun no. 14 utility?

Way to early to call but i think Sheens will start the season with
1.Moltzen
7.Miller
14.Reddy
Reddy will come on at fullback Moltzen to 1/2 & Miller to the bench.Sheens wont throw Miller in the deep end & will ease him into 1st grade.Hopefully by the 1/2way mark of 2012 Miller will have the confidence to boss the team around & play 80mins come semi's time.
As for Brown i cant see him ever cementing a 1st grade spot & its probably best for his sake he finds a new club

I agree,he played what,2 good games all year,I don't get all the fuss,Miller and Tedesco will carry us through,hell Manly have had 2 rookie halves in 2 years and look at them.

No doubt they will pick what they think will be the best 17, I was just thinking there is a lot of players who will be affected by the decision moving forward and hoping like hell it works out best for them.

Whatever happens I hope the club is smart enough to hang on to both Miller and Tedesco because I believe they are future quality players for the NRL side.

In a perfect world they would be given a little more experience in NYC/State Cup and while this is happening their spots would be filled with experienced players (Moltzen 7, Brown/Reddy 1).

This would be similar to how Hasler brought his through.

Miller left the Roosters because they signed Carney and had Pearce, I'd hate to see the same happen again.
