Moltzen-Half Back or Fullback implications for others

No offence taken the tooth i can see your point too, it is just that i think Tim should have gone to the dragons it is a lot of money to pass up and as the tigers have said they are in no hurry to give him a new contract it is a huge gamble to take. Itake your point that Tim can play in a lot of positons so can some others and this may hold him back at the tigers he would have had the 1 or 7 jumper at the dragons to make his own and i dont think this is the case at the tigers. You say we should sign him up now while his value has droped that would not be fair to the guy maybe good in someways for us but not so good for him this is the guys living so you must try and set yourself up for life while you can as i said before this is a buisness and i hope Tim does not find out the hard way

Well, I know that Brett Kimmorley rated Jacob Miller as the best halfback he had ever seen in the Toyota Cup competition. Who’s to argue with a man who played 307 first grade games over 16 years? I just quietly think that Miller will be given the shot at 7 for 2012\. After googling articles with Jacob Miller in them, there are articles with quotations from people like Farah, who state how he directs the team efficiently. (Article - http://inner-west-courier.whereilive.com.au/sport/story/farrah-backs-cheeky-miller-in-tigers-debut/ ). Moltz will then I think be given the fullback role. I'm a fan of Mitch Brown, so I think its a shame that he miss out on some games, particularly after being overlooked by Sheens to face the Warriors.

1) Moltzen
7) Miller

I hope Miller is the 7\. While I didn;t see much of Moltzen in the U20's what I saw of him in firsts (even when we were winning with him in 7) showed no evidence that he is a good 7.

Fullback is anyone's guess.
Grant - IF he can make the code switch I think he has the natural skills and abilities to be the best 1 we have by a long way. That won;t be a quick or easy transition though.
Brown - safe under a high ball and solid at the back.
Tedesco - huge wraps but I haven;t seen enough to comment.
Moltzen - good support runner. Ball hog in attack. Defensively and under the high ball pretty ordinary. Those last 2 started to improve at the end of last season and hopefully he was starting to get back to his actual ability after his knee injury.

Personal opinion, IF everything goes as well as it can and players develop quickly to their potential:
7 Miller
1 Grant
14 Moltzen

What actually happens - who knows

Should be interesting as to see who gets the job, at least we have options.

Miller should probably be given a crack I guess and if that does happen, I can't see Sheens giving anyone else a go at the fullback spot except Moltzen.

Is everyone forgetting that Joel Reddy is a fullback and a solid player??

Well actually, from the stats, he is best a center. He even found pressure keeping that at Parramatta.

I only think of Reddy as a depth signing.

Center mainly isnt he?
1 moltz
7 Miller

Reddy came into grade as a fullback. Few Eels mates still think he can hold his own back there.

Personally I think we will see molten at 7 where he will do well and reddy at fullback he would have played their at parra but he was behind hayne which is fair enough. Grant is for pot3!

I am hearing whispers that Gerald Beale is un-happy at Broncos

He would be a perfect fit for us at Tigers

He could come and play with the captain and vice captain of his Coutries team

I think Miller is planned as the long term half. But it wouldn't surprise me to see Moltzen start the year at halfback with Brown/Reddy at the back.

Then see Miller introduced off the bench more and more until a permanent switch with Moltzen going to fullback and Miller starting in the halves somewhere around the 10 week mark.

It was very interesting to read recently that the WTs are reluctant at this point, to give Tim another contract.

To my way of thinking on the run home, at the back end of the season, Tim was one of our best players.

He injected himself into the backline on numerous ocassions, at pace, with great effect and his taking of the bomb was greatly improved. In fact he attacked the ball, catching it on the full which had been absent earlier in the season.

I'm intrigued by the WTs reluctance at this point, I carn't imagine that they think he doesn't have the goods.

Do they have someone else in mind ?.

I value Tedesco but is a little way off yet.

Brown is solid and reliable but won't win you the game.

Dugan ? who knows - a Dragon or a WT ?

Moltzen at halfback is a stop gap measure. Maybe that is the plan. Play him in 2012, giving Miller more time to adjust, then cut him at the end of his contract.

Thats a tough way to go but in this day and age its business.

I havn't made my mind up yet, not enough info but it is an intriging thought to carry into next year. !

I see where you're at LaT, but the last thing Moltzen needs is more shuffling around. I don't care if he's half or fullback, he is going to play one or the other. Pick him there, and keep him there all year.

There's still so many possible combinations that could happen in terms of fullback and half, will be interesting to see what runs out in round #1.

That article was a beat up, don't read a whole lot into it.

Basically when we kept him here we said that we weren't in a rush to extend the current deal given he still has another 12 months to go on his current contract.

The article made it sound like we were reluctant, but it was extremely light on facts and details. Like most articles from the DT.

There is no way in hell Molzten would be staying on a weaker deal then the dragons.

We are obviously laying low until the dragons move on enough.

Really..It sounded like he wanted to stay no matter what the Tigers offered.

I think he would have taken a very much weaker deal to stay.

I'd prefer Moltzen at fullback, with Miller and Chisholm to fight it out for the starting 7.

I like Miller as half, he started the year on fire in the 20s, but his form (as did the 20s) toward the back end of the year slipped away. I don't know much about Chisholm, but you would hope that in 3 years at the Storm he picked up a few good habits from Cronk and the like. Would be happy with either of them starting out.

As for Humble, Reddy and Brown etc - they give us good backline depth. There are bound to be injuries throughout the year and Lote is not getting any younger.
