Moltzen-Half Back or Fullback implications for others

What Did people expect moltzen to play like after a knee reco?? I think for someone to comeback and play like he has in the later part of the year is an advancement of where he should have been. I think he was way ahead of form then people think.

Chisolm will play halfback if moltzen is fullback. Miller will become a hooker.

Right on put the guys head in a scrum when he has all the boxes ticked to be a 1st grade 1/2 which are so in demand these days.

I'm wondering how long some people are gona use a knee recon to justify faults in the guys game… He didnt have his recon in late October 2010 and it certainly isnt 1998...

The spark had left prior to any excuse and I hope he finds his mojo before 2012 comes around now we have to blood a new 7!

Tiger watto,
He did his knee in 2010 and was playing bloody good football before he did it. First game back in 2011\. Played well back end of 2011\. It can take 18mths for a player to be remotely anywhere near full form. he has come back pretty good. Not sure why u think otherwise.

Troy, I think the difference between our opinions is whether he was playing that well before he did his knee. I dont think he was, as his 2010 Trial Form and the first 4 weeks were well below average in my eyes.

He did show good progress in the last 3 games in 2011, and as I stated above, I hope he finds good form early in 2012 to limit the disruption of blooding a new 7.

There shouldnt be any theories in 2012 about his knee!

I just wonder then T-Rexx - if it was such common knowledge that Moltzen would play so ordinarily on his return, then why wasn't he played a few rounds in State Cup? I don't know how you guys do things there, and you will know a heck of a lot more about the process and rigmarole regarding this, so I am only speculating from an outsiders viewpoint….

Don't get me wrong mate, I can see the kids talent, and heart started to show through towards the end of the season, but he didn't look all there on his initial return...

Things have changed… I wouldnt of risked Moltzen in NSW Cup. Look what happened to Apollo Creed?!

then i suppose its a real Rock👍 ***GROAN*** and a hard place the tigers are stuck between when it comes to dealing with this sort of injury.

I wonder how Tim's shoulder injury is coming along? :roll

Moltzen could end up a better fullback than Slater or a better half than Andrew Johns and he would still cop a bagging by some people on here.
Sheens played him all over the shop last season before finally leaving him in one position (fullback) for a few weeks where he actually proved he is a quality player.
All the doomsayers were proven wrong - he was one of our better players during the finals.
The same people who attacked him relentlessly all year in the discussions about him replacing Lui are now worried might be given a shot at halfback on a regular basis and prove they were wrong about that as well.
Ho hum and move along - checking the forum it looks like poor John Grant might be the next whipping boy before he even plays a game

fair point… in my eyes i thought the guy was having a blinder start of the season for someone who was thrown in the deep end.. i think him as a partner with Benji CLICKED well and was on a good thing.
but your right about 1 thing. 2012 there is no excuses.. His confidence was well down at the beginning and mid year.. the last part of the year you could see he was getting back into it the swing of things.

Underdog, i think throwing him in State cup wasnt the answer. As bad as he played being thrown in the 1st grade squad probably got him upto speed faster then if he was in State Cup. State Cup vs NRL is a 1000 steps up and i dont think time there would have helped him

IF he does play a game that is. Besides, who are you to talk? you were one Lui's biggest bashers on here

Check out the final two minutes in the semi against the Warriors. Cost us a grand final appearance

dont blame the rest of the team for letting the warriors back in the game. Sounds like you still have sour grapes

Who am I to talk?
Not sure you understand the post - I said 'IF' Moltzen plays unbelievably great he would still cop it.
I'll be the first to admit to saying (on many occassions) Lui should not have been our halfback - notably because he leaked points every game due to his atrocious defence (can you state otherwise?),was slow and , in my opinion, didn't play the style of game we needed.
I based my opinions on his playing ability unlike so many who chose to attack Moltzen saying he had no heart or was too pretty (what?)
Unfortunately Lui won't get a chance at the Tigers to prove me wrong.
If he had turned it around I would have copped it on the chin and eaten humble pie a la Matt Utai
As for other comments about Moltzen costing us the game against the Warriors I think ,if anything , maybe the finger should be pointed at the guys who didn't kick the ball downfield when it was needed and give Moltzen a break

Dont discount Blackwater lad Tom Humble. Tough enough, skilful enough. With the right chance this boy can play. Parra never had the right people for him to compliment. Extremely solid in defence. Maybe him feeding left and right to Benji, Robbie and co. is the solid answer we have been looking for. Moltzen fullback for sure.Second half of season 11 proved thats where he should be. Dragons could see that from as far as Kogarah Oval. :bulb:

Mate…..youre talking mainly about something thats highly unlikely to happen while disregarding something that did happens as merely ''doomsayers being proven wrong''

What about the start of the year when he was terrible....you talk like it didnt exist....it did. (and imo it was way more than just lack of confidence due to knee reco)

If youre talking about people saying he would NEVER improve....provide quotes.
Too broad a swipe otherwise

You bet!

All he had to do was place a hand on him and that would have been that. But, no, fiddle farting around, not knowing the rules and it did cost us. He was about 1 foot in front of him. Put your hand on him for God's sake. It is not rocket science. Learn the rules and learn to think under pressure.

Tommy would have torn his head off before letting him score that try. Wise up. He is not a good fullback and never will be.
