Moltzen or Lui?

Someone suggested on this forum to bring in Johns to teach him how to kick etc. etc. Give me a break. If you wanted to do that, why not do it with Miller?

Johns is on record as saying he is the best halfback he had seen in the under 20's. Surely that would be the way to go if you wanted to involve Johns.

he can help them both. i want us to keep miller too. his time will come

I just dont get why people keep saying Moltzen isn't a halfback and has no passing or kicking game.

The obvious crutch, for a moltzen halfback fan like myself is that we have won 9 from 10 with him at halfback. Spin it any way you like, with that record with him there, in itself is enough to prove he is not a dud in that position.

The claim he has no passing game is just false, his raw passing skills are strong, he has shown regularly excellent ball playing moments from fullback, at half his passing game would be fine.

I think he is a fine fullback as well.

Someone please post that highlights video of Moltzen again. All his best highlights are off the back of support play and second phase. None of his highlights involve the attributes of a natural, controlling halfback.

IMO he is no fullback or halfback. He is a running five-eighth, a good one (not great) who would work well next to a controlling, creative halfback. We already have the best five-eighth in the business and don't have a dominating halfback so I've never thought Moltzen was the right fit for us.

Your post is a good example of him being gloried as a halfback after half a dozen average games in where he got most of the credit for the team playing well. At fullback, he played well again for about six odd games and before that he was a complete liability who couldn't even do the basics right (catch bombs, make metres on kick returns, offer support through the ruck etc. etc.)

I hope I am proven wrong but I thought it was the right call to let him go in the first place (though it now appears we never did). Maybe he will develop into a good fullback but a few decent games at the back end of the season is all he has to his name so far. He is no superstar.

He doesn't have a kicking game and if he does as many of you say then why has he never shown it in first grade? All I can remember is one towering bomb. How many times has he kicked that has resulted directly in a try? How many times has he kicked to give us a repeat set? How many times has he kicked to try and give us good field position?

He can't direct a side around the park, all his good work at #7 during that winning streak was off the back of support, second phase play and the whole side stepping up.

Just my opinion.

Sure he plays off the back of benji and robbie but that's exactly what you need in a half, it shows that he reads the game, knows where to be and can catch a ball and make a run when he needs to. How is that a bad thing? And for every try he's scored, he's set up another, there are plays that come off the back of Moltzen too.

And let's not forget he spent most of his last two years in first grade as a utility player. Once he was actually given a solid role he shined.

As much as I'ld prefer him at Fullback, I'm sure that given a full off-season and a regular half back position he will come into his own, just as he did at fullback.

I remember the game against the Titans at Skilled Park earlier this year he looked very uncomfortable. He wouldn't attack the ball and I recall him gifting two tries, letting the Titans back in the game solely because he let bombs bounce before attempting to catch them. However, given a regular FB spot at the end of the year he gained confidence and we all saw the team reaping the benefits.

Im sure it would be the same if given a regular crack at HB. The only question remaining is how long it will take for him to come on at HB and are we prepared to stick by him if he is chosen to be our HB?

I think anyone, even a seasoned first grader still **POST EDITED BY ADMIN** themselves trying to catch a bomb on the full. Anyone except maybe Brett Hodges, but he's a ninja under the high ball. You gotta give the kids a fair chance to at least get used to it
