Moltzen

He has a good passing game, can ball play too….can create a gap & put a player into it

He needs to take the line on..........saw Miller take on the line often, scored two tries thru sheer determination and taking on the line with a bit of a show, go & step.

Probably baby steps at this stage with Sheens....he has a nice step, some wicked acceleration and speed...once he gets the confidence and knowledge of when to take on the line the highlites reels will grow.

Hope he can kick mate thats my main concern.

Don't worry he can kick and also has a very good kick chase as well. Unfortunately it might take him a couple off weeks to settle in but by then everyone will be wondering what all the concern was about.

Said it before and i will say it again Moltzen is not the answer at 1/2 back he will not take the line on and other teams will work this out and hammer his support. Also he is no better at defence than lui and this will also come back and bit us later in the season. I hope Iam proved wrong but I think come round 26, I will be saying told u all at the start, but good luck Tim.

bp tiger, I give you massive credit for putting your opinion out there at the start of the season. Many of the 'We hate Moltzen' club are very quiet until he has a bad game, and then they come out in droves.

I personally jumped for joy when it was confirmed he was staying. I think he has a lot to offer. He has to mature a little, but I remember Benji Marshall being white hot or ice cold some years ago. He got many chances.

Before everyone cracks, I am not saying he is a Benji. I think we haven't seen anywhere near his best. If he does deliver what he can, look out. This could easily be the best halves combination in the NRL if they stay fit.

He needs a good HALF BACK COACH like Joey Johns to help him develop his game, under someone like Johns will see the best come out..

In all honestly if he works on his kicking he could become the next Phil Blake the ex Manly player who was dynamite with his kick chip regather in the 80's 90's era.

Thats when he'll start dummying and taking on the line…..he'll be good imo, better than good.

btw I wish we could drop this Moltzen haters club crap...its a myth.
If by stating he was poor when he actually WAS poor...if thats a hating club then so be it...some can criticise constructively

There is definately a large element on here that were massively overly critical of him at times. Im not saying he was awesome last year, but some of the carry on here was ridiculous.

understand completely where you are coming from here. I thought we saw glimpses of Moltzen taking on the line though..i recall he took on the line on one occasion only to be held up short of the line on saturday?

Your'e telling me that the criticism this guy got last year was justified? He had a few average games coming back from serious injury.

Constructive criticism is fine.

I cannot wait to see the Moltzen/Marshall combo build through the year. Injuries will be the only thing that will stop these two carving holes all through opposition defences. Yeehah!!!

Theres none of that here now so why keep bringing it up?

It just makes some people feel better about themselves I think

i think you might be looking at his trial work the wrong way.
if he isn't taking on the line, then that is a good thing.he is broadening his game and working on his weakness.
if you look at his highlights his passing has all come after he has broken the line or the defense is retreating.
the only plays he makes passing are from set plays where he doesn't have to set up an outside man and drawing defenders in from a set line.

i've always felt he is far to predictable with the ball in his hands because he either passes the ball too early and commits nobody or he just throws a dummy and takes on the line.
always gave me the feeling he was just playing it safe to keep errors at a minimum instead of taking the game on.
with benji in your side you can get away with that type of approach, but we can't always expect benji to be the only go to man.

hopefully with the 7 now being his,he will open up a bit more and develop into a more probing half with the ball.
though i don't expect to see this overnight.

I've been a critic of Moltzen at fullback and felt Lui offered more at half.

That said, he's by and far a better half/pivot than a fullback and if he is allowed to use the kicking game he supposedly possesses (I've never seen it used excessively,) and use it well he'll add another dimension to his game.

He needs to take the pressure of Benji, but whether Marshall and Farah are happy to relinquish control a little is another story. It took forever for Lui to be able to call shots.

Could not agree more. I said last year that he would end up costing us an important game and that is what happened.

This year will be no different. He will cost us big time. I hope I am wrong but I do not think so. Nothing good has ever come from Sheens playing his favourites.

how do you justify this? in the games he played at halfback a few years back he killed it… he has been forced into a position that was not natural to him (fullback)... if your purely judging it on the trials, i think your being a bit harsh..

moltzen is going to suprise alot of people this year... just give him a chance for christs sake.
