Money Lote

Are you sure that Lote is on big WT money, or is the bulk of his contract perhaps coming from a 3rd Party?

If so, when he leaves he may only free up a small out from our cap

just saying….

I'm sure we would have to be contributing a significant amount. I find it hard to believe the bulk of his contract would be made up of 3rd party payments with us only paying him peanuts

When he signed it was widely reported at $400k per year, with a chunk coming from 3rd party.

I thought 3rd party deals were capped at $150k per player…so minimal Lote would free up $250k from the cap....I'd say closer to $300k...

Players can earn whatever they want through 3rd party deals, only the ones organised/guaranteed through the club are part of the $300k 3rd party allowance.

There is also the very real possibility that Gareth Ellis will end his NRL career after 2012 which will clear up some cap room. However Gareth is so instrumental to our team that I really what hate to see the back of the big Pom…..

ELLIS TO STAY AT WESTS TIGERS UNTIL END OF 2013
12/05/2010 3:59:06 PM

Hard hitting Englishman Gareth Ellis has today re-signed with the Wests Tigers for a further two seasons.

Rated the world’s best second-rower, Ellis is in his second season of a three year stint with the Wests Tigers but has agreed to further extend his deal which keeps him at the club until the end of the 2013 season.

Ellis has played 30 games for Wests Tigers and was named the club’s player of the year in 2009 in his first season in the NRL.

The announcement was made this morning at the Trend Micro Office in Macquarie Park. Trend Micro is the official back of shorts sponsor of the Wests Tigers.

“Gareth had an immediate and dramatic impact on the NRL last year,’’ said Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys.

“His efforts in 2009 saw him win the Wests Tigers Player of the Year award, earn selection in the English side for the Four Nations tournament, and the inaugural NRL All Stars side.

“Gareth is one of our most popular and professional players. He possesses a great work ethic and is a real leader both on and off the field.

“He and his partner Rachael, along with their young son Isaac, have become integral members of the Tigers family and we are thrilled with their decision to commit to us for this extended period.”

Thats exactly what I was thinking Kul.

He may even opt to take less money to stay here.

I would be shocked if this isn't Lote's last year with us.

I reckon he might take a lucrative overseas league/union stint post 2012 season and then hang up the boots.

As to who takes up the cap, well I'm sure there will another marque signing made at some point through the year, not sure who that would be but it appears we are a little light on for really classy outside backs.

It's a funny thing watching lote play. In form he is one of the premier wingers in the game with great toe for someone of his years, but last year, not including injuries, he had developed this run where he came out of dummy half, ran sideways and backwards and did nothing. Another year of that and he'll be very lucky to get anywhere near the coin he's on now however if he regains his form of 2010 then who knows where he'll end up as there will be a pile of clubs looking to sign him.

Yeh helmesy we will be after a marque signing would you think from england or here but all i know will have to wait and see 😀

Yeah I'm not sure, I dont think it will be Dugan - knowing Sheens and the WT's the signing will be unexpected and out of left field.

Of course if John Grant shows the talent that many believe he has we may not need to look elsewhere.

They'll need to replace heighno at some point, he's only signed on for another year, and by the end of that he'll be 30 unless i'm mistaken.

Conversely has there been any word from the man himself as to exactly when Lote intends to quit? It's not unreasonable to assume he'll hang them up by the time he's 34, as most players do, but he could pull a Petro and hang around the NRL until his limbs fall off

Or would he go to French rugby and make a nice superannuation nest egg?

Well he didn't exactly get a fair chance to show form this season with all his injuries (three, count them, THREE). We'll have to wait until the end of next season to realistically know what will happen to him. If he's anything less than first grade material he'll see out his career in europe, probably playing union, but I think even aged 36 he'd still have league clubs clamouring to sign him.
