MORE OF A MENTAL CHALLENGE FOR PLAYERS

Lifting the players mentally has been the challenge for Wests Tigers Head Coach Tim Sheens this week following the heart-breaking loss to South Sydney.
“We were physically and emotionally drained after that game on the weekend,’’ Sheens said ahead of the team’s final training session before the Good Friday clash with Brisbane at Allianz Stadium.
“In a short turnaround (week), it has been really important to get ourselves back on the horse and certainly ready to play.
“I think we have done that really well. I’m comfortable after the sessions we have had this week that we will be ready to play and there will be no excuses.
“(Mentally) it is difficult. We led the game the whole way. We have led all bar one of our games at half-time this year and have not played well enough in the second half.
“To get within 7 minutes of the end of the game and to lead by 12 is unacceptable. The guys know that. There is nothing we can do about that now except do better this week.”
Sheens said the return from suspension of hooker and captain Robbie Farah and the return from injury of Test prop Keith Galloway would play its part in helping the team to lift mentally.
“You want to have your best players available and that does give confidence to the team, particularly the younger ones,’’ Sheens added.
“’They need to have that senior player around them to help ease them through them through the tough spots in the game.”
