Moses Mbye Super Duper Thread

I’m stating the obvious, but players like long term contracts to safeguard against persistent injury causing form slumps. This doesn’t always give the club an advantage until the final year of the contract. I was thinking Moses Mbye would have been a good 6 for Broncos, but apparently Staggs now wants to play 6 and Mbye wants to stay in Sydney.

You know some days back in this exact thread I said we’d be silly to let him go this season, as I thought he might bring us some value, but the longer this goes on and the more he talks I’m starting to wonder. We certainly need something in return- talk of a potential 3 way deal with Cows, and Maguire to Dragons gets us nothing!

Agree, we get to save some money, but have no one to spend it on atm.

Unless we consider signing Reynolds and Brooks to 14?

Yup, we'd be silly to let him go this season. Let him go next year when Simpkin is more ready to go or we sign another utility.

Hopefully we are working at getting someone decent off broncos in return for Billy - not many in their top 30 are very appealing. Maybe they have a rookie somewhere we could use

We are a much better chance of playing finals with Mbye in the team. Unless an advantageous swap of some kind can be worked out, definitely would be keeping him this year.

I hear what you are saying but disgruntled players are not good to have on rooster. Happy to see him go*italicised text*

He's never sounded disgruntled to me at all

There more I hear about Mbye the less I like him. Positions himself as if doing the right thing but in reality he has been a massive failure. He has been doing the wrong thing for well over 12 months now and his poor on field performances and weaknesses are being overlooked because of his slick talk. I’m starting not to like him one bit.

Not sure how you can dislike the bloke that knows he isn't performing and is trying to help the club. End of the day he's played fine when he's been here, just hasn't lived up to his price tag and that's not his fault

Obviously he has his own motivations for wanting a release but he could've easily just bludged like Packer does and collect his money every week but he's trying to help us out.

Don't think there's any negatives in this situation at all and surely no reason to start disliking the bloke, he's not being arrogant or smart he knows he hasn't been good enough and is owning it.

Don’t let him fool you, he’s not trying to help the club he’s trying to help himself and to ensure he gets a contract from somewhere moving forward.

If he's trying to help himself get another contract at another club and not see his contract out with us, he's helping us.

With Michael Morgan announcing his retirement this morning the Mbye move to Nth QLD could be on.

If that's the case we'd need a player in return but I can't really think of anyone at the Cows i'd particularly want.

Yeah pretty bare cupboard up there. You'd maybe take a Drinkwater or even Ben Hampton as spine coverage with NRL experience.

I’d take that speedy winger who’s name escapes me

MC Hammer ?

There is a bloke by the name of Masters who plays centre we could look at

Looking through their team they don't have much at all
Taumalolu
Holmes
Feldt
Drinkwater

The top 2 would be no chance
Feldt unlikely
Drinkwater would be our best chance in that lot but he is not in a position of need
Unless he becomes a back up fullback or half

Tabuai-Fidow goes quite nicely.

Whoever does the junior recruitment for the Cowboys goes okay? Kikau, Simpkins, JT, Hughes, Brandon Smith, Kafausi, Tabuai-Fidow lots of talent

Id like Feldt, hes hit a wall there but has a lot of talent and probably needs a change. However he is 29 and theyve signed him until end of 2024, so yeah dont fancy having him on the books for 3 and a half years

One thing I would not be doing if I was the Tigers is releasing Billy Walters, if the Broncos keep losing they will become more desperate. I don’t know how far billy is along with his recovery but I wouldn’t be letting them fill their final spot with Billy. They may make a play for Mbye this year and if that’s the case I’d let Mbye go, I realise it leaves us weaken in the short term but better off long term.

Just flippers ?

This is an ongoing problem for our club.

Mbye was a panic buy, he was never worth 900k per season. He is an average player, not a marquee.

In saying that, I am in no hurry to see him go. He is massively overpaid, but even if he leaves we will likely be stuck paying a fair percentage of that.

The problem is that the likely outcome will be that we will sign another average player or a promising junior on less money. It will help the bottom line, but until we get better players it will not improve our results at all.

Agree Harvey, and it will take to long to bring up talent from the juniors. We seriously are in need of 2 to 3 high quality backs. Laurie and Brooks are the only players that would get their current money on the open market.

He must have been at WT'S sometime in his career to let go of all those classy players
