Moses Mbye Super Duper Thread

What an awful recruitment decision it was to give him $800k a year, happy we can at least use some of his money next year

We do need a backup fullback now though. Might mean we hang onto Cini

Dillon 😉

Out of all the Cleary signings this is the one I was most excited about. Even bulldog supporters at the time were livid to lose him. But what a disaster it has been. Good riddance!!!!

Wish Moses all the best in his future endeavours. A great man of integrity, class and respect. I am grateful he didn't sulk like the other players and agitate a release, he did it the right way. He didn't justify his price tag at all but that isn't all his fault. Our club is just well a bit hey ya goin. I'm glad we've moved on but all the best Moses!

Correct post!

However, just noticed that Dogs paid for a year and a half to play for us and **we will pay a year for him to play elsewhere**.

He didn't play like the 700 or 800K player but I still found him extremely safe in all backline positions. At 1, 4 or 6, his defence was sound and really good short passing game.

Where was it mentioned that we will pay a year for him next year to leave?

I think Pom mentioned we’re paying half

Confirming we are paying half.

Half

I havent been as strident in my hate for Mbye as some here and I see his utility value (who would you replace him with right now that is better) and I was wary of replacing him as a utility for next year, however I think with Hastings coming (who I am not excited about), he could provide some utility value in the case of needing a fill in at half/fullback/hooker

Half

I would think we paid that half out of our 500k left over cap this yr so have his full value available next year

What interests me is that with all the useful free agents for 2022 now signed, the Tigers still think there's something they can do with a saving of roughly $400k from Mbye. At this stage and with just a year left on his deal it was *almost* worth thinking about whether he'd be a better option at centre next year than anything else we're likely to find in the bargain bin and just accepting that he's going to be wildly overpaid to be a bog average centre.

I hope we use the money to upgrade, extend and front load Utoikamanu. Doubt we're going to be much better next year as things stand so might as well keep digging those foundations.

Dear Dragons. Please take him now.
Yours sincerely, every WT fan.

Not every WT fan mate ...I can speak for myself....he did play origin and he was recruited by Ivan for a purpose...not only did Ivan let us down he also let Moses down and in a long expensive contract...

My man Hastings can cover fullback if necessary, but yeah I would hang onto Cini as well.

The dogs supporters i know would have happily driven him to Concord as they thought he was terrible

We have roughly 1.2 million free for next year with Packer and Mbye gone. For most clubs that’s an Origin player coming their way. For us, I’m sure we’ll pick up a discard in the off season whose lost their place because their club has brought in an Origin player. Ain’t it great supporting this club.

Not sure if you’re being positive or not..

But I’d rather a discard that’s got potential then someone at their peak and slowly declining during their 3-5 year contracts.

Stick to WOW or League of legends!

Yes respect your opinion mate
Ivan is a flog

Poor Moses is both a victim and a beneficiary of misplaced hype based on early potential. A victim in as much as people’s expectations are probably too high. He’s not terrible judged against average first grade players but he’s simply incapable of being the borderline star people expect he can be. On the other hand he’s done very well financially out of this arrangement.

He seems a nice guy and he’s handled the speculation and subsequent departure with class thus far.
