It's a balancing act. Look at benji. Packed on the weight, lost his speed. Speed everything for some players.

He has four or so months to chow into the Big Macs, or maybe now with our new SC, he might have to eat Kale and Soy burgers

Technique is more important than weight….look at all the little guys who were light but had a great tackling technique and they went on to have a great NRL career...Toovey, Presto, Hodgo....

Chris Lawrence is also a prime example.

His weight is fine. More than James maloney who played Origin and won a grand final a year ago.

If he fills out without losing any pace though, it certainly won't hurt.

imo the games a lot more physical these days. very few skinny players these days and accounting for height is very important. Toovey and Maloney both a lot shorter than Moses.

When using BMI, tooveys was 24.

Maloney 26.

Mitch moses (assuming 81kg) is 24 and (assuming 87kg) is 26.

A. Reynolds BMI - 28
B. Marshall BMI - 27
M. Pearce - 26
DCE - 25

I know technique is crucial, but being outmuscled in D by 115kg giants taking on two small halves isn't the best idea. around 86kg looks like it'd be a decent weight for moses. playing at 81kg would make him the one of the skinniest halves in the NRL and probably too light. wasn't too long ago everyone was saying hes too small for FG atm, needs to pack on a few. i saw him get brushed aside in 9s quite a bit, and a bit in the NRL this year.

just commenting that he looks to have packed on a couple of kgs from a year ago, which is interesting.

Don't have a huge problem with his weight. Made 16 tackles missed 1 against the bulldogs. Has good technique there. But he did get caught our one on one playing fullback where people would just walk over him.

His speed and vision is on point. So breaking the line should come through those traits over size.

His one on one at fullback was terrible. I still believe that moltzens last line of defense at fullback (excl high ball) was one of the best

not much help wether he is 81 or 86kg when you defending 115kg - good D is team work - one on one's shouldn't happen and rarely do - Put a unit like sirro or blair on either side

re; defensive fullbacks
when Beau Ryan filled in at fullback. at first he wasn't great , then he improved beyond belief. mainly through sheer determination.
Moses will get there. Last year he was thrown in the deep end. this year he'll be playing in his natural position (5/8) .
no doubt he'll get targeted in the defensive line. In 2014, even though he was a slight build and did get bumped a few times , but showed guts and good technique. and will be all the better for it come 2015.

He will fill out a little bit with age but I would be wary of bulking him up too much. I suspect he will play aroung the 88kg mark eventually

Random question. Does anyone know from SG Ball days hoe Brooks/Moses formed there combination?

These days all halves seem to play left or right side and rarely link up but im curious to know whether these two linked up like traditional halves.

Moses this year was very good in d for his size. He needed a bit of help once he got a grab on his man to stop momentum, but he definitely stuck his shoulders in. He was certainly better than Brooks in the line and Brooks has a few kilos on him. He certainly wasn't scared to rip into the big guys.

I would give him a solid diet to stick to, to help put some bulk on in the off season and plenty of gym.

The biggest reason he needs to add weight and muscle is to help busting the line but mostly to avoid injury from constantly having to take on and tackle massive units.

A lot of small guys have done well at his current weight so I don't think it's a major issue. It's just that there's no many monsters in the game and there's a lot more wrestle involved compared to even 5 years ago when blokes like Hodgo, Campbell, etc where running around in the NRL.

The weight is not the issue ,muscle mass around certain areas is important especially with a slight frame,as injury will become the issue.A bit more muscle in certain areas without bulking up would be the key aim here.

Weight is extremely important to success.
A performance analyst I know factors in a weight range based on position and makes up as much as possible 10% of the score and in some cases if they don't meet a broad range he eliminates tem completely.

As for Moses, I would like to see him play at high 80s give or take.

My two favourite little blokes who could smash blokes with the best of them was Trevor Gillmeister and ex Tiger Lincoln Withers

JT is still one of the best in the world and isn't very big.

I know he can be a liability in defence at times. But bulk him up too much and he loses his speed etc.
