My Wests Tigers Review

I have written up my own review of the Tigers 2012 season. It's pretty long so I'll just post the link to it on my blog.

I am going to do some more research and include more stats etc over the following next few weeks and may even submit it to the club itself. I doubt they'll go through it, but its worth a crack.

Great work MU

Hopefully if there is a changing in the guard in the off season someone up top passes this on to Sheens successor and they can use this in the hope of some positive changes around the club

Lot of work went into that Madman … Well done, very comprehensive.
Don't agree with your conclusion however (but that's probably just me).

I don't really go along with the view that Sheens is unduly holding juniors back ... The guys not a fool, if he thinks a kids ready or likely to do a better job, he'll pick the rookie ... Eg Tedesco, Sironen, Groat, Korribette in recent times ... And he has given Miller and Simona a taste and clearly wasn't happy enough to continue with their immediate elevation. So I really think this criticism is somewhat of a furphy.

The point about complacency and persevering with the same players despite poor form is a tad simplistic. If there is little genuine pressure coming from outside the top grade squad then it's very difficult to put anybody on notice. I think Blairs continued poor efforts should have seen BMM and Moors pushed up into the starting 13 at stages of the year however Blair would still have made my 17 as no back rower in the State Cup or 20s was offering a better option. Once Sironen went down we had no real half option outside Benji. Miller has been disappointing in NYC and Humble was tried early in the year and failed.

Where I do think the coach is struggling however is in the staleness of the attacking structure and the total disintegration of the sides defence.

That is a good read madunit. I would also add this …
one of the real problems in the NRL, not just for our club, but all clubs, is the lack of a genuine reserve grade competition. It would be so much easier to guage how a good young footballer would handle first grade if he was playing in a competitive reserve grade comp against not only other talented youngsters but also a sprinkling of hardened ex-first graders and fringe firstgraders. It would lessen the 'gamble' a coach is currently taking when pulling a player out of the NYC and throwing him into first grade.

Good read and well constructed, but it is skewed towards your bias on factors at the club you are not happy with.

Well Done though!

Agree, althought it's still a very good read with a lot of home truths in there.

Good detailed review.

I think most forum members agree that Sheens needs to move on so we can geta coach with a fresh approach and new inspiration.

A new coach might be good for Marshall, Farah's and co careers who have only had one coach their whole career.

What most fail to recognise is if we replace Sheens, many of the players we currently like will be sacked or relegated to whatever the equivalent of seconds is today until their contract is up.
We will all live that if a new coach gets results but if he doesn't we will be quite peeved and blame the lack of results on that relegation.

Why?

As someone said, your squad is your squad.

There is a salary cap. A new coach cannot come in and dump half a team of NRL players taking up half the cap and replace them

But if players need a boot…...good, theyve not done much to earn reward lately, have they?
