Nathan Brown to interview for Wests Tigers coach via video

I get the impression that coaches never win premierships when they leave their first club without one. I'm sure there are arguments to the contrary but all the premiership winning coaches currently in the NRL won at least one at their first NRL club I think. Bennett, Bellamy, Hasler, Robinson … For this reason I'd want either Folkes or a newbie like Brennan. I've changed my tune on the other guys.

Interesting view.

I like it

Warren Ryan coached Newtown before going to dogs and winning 2 comps there.

Also Tim Sheens at Penrith before a premierships at other clubs and Bennett at the raiders before premierships at other club. Thats three of the best coaches over the last 25 years. Myth busted I think

Did Folkes not win a premiership as coach with Canterbury in 2004 or have I got my facts mixed up ?

Folks lost his first attempt with the dogs in 1998 losing the GF to the broncos
Stripped of completion points in 2002 after 17 straight wins ( salary cap)
Won the Big one in 2004 against the chooks .

And Bellamy didn't have a nRL head coach job before Melbourne.

So basically there's nobody disagreeing?

Last I checked he wasn't coaching in the NRL and never has.

That's my point. He won a premiership at the first club he coached at.

Is Sheens a current coach? You've got me on Bennett, but he was only there for a season lol.

Either way it's quite a bizarre thing. In all the years of League there are going to be exceptions but it's very unusual for a coach to go to another club after leaving there first club and not continue to be a failure the rest of their career lol.

Edit: Technically Bennett was the co-coach of the Raiders with Don Furner… and they made the Grand Final that year so ... pretty close considering he was there for one year lol.

There have only really been 4 coaches to have won a premiership in the last 10 years. Bennett, Hasler, Bellamy and now Robinson.

Did Stuart start at the roosters?
Also Cleary didn't win a premiership with warriors but I'm sure he will win one with Penrith.

Interesting idea, might even be true- but I don't think it means much tbh.

Pretty sure everyone disagreed. Going by your reasoning you wouldnt employ Bennett or Cleary. It a rubbish theory.

Mate the evidence is there. Bennett made a grand final in his first season as a top level coach and had won comps in the BRL anyway. Cleary hasn't won a comp just yet…

Yes the evidence is there. Wayne Bennnett did not win a premiership at his first club ( Canberra) and neither did Cleary (NZ). Therefore going by your theory you woulnt employ them, Rubbish theory.
Also you want to exclude the deeds of the likes of Warren Ryan and Tim Sheens because they dont currentl coach in the NRL to prove your point that Folkes should get the job despite him also not currently coaching in the NRL.
Rubbish theory.
BRL? Seriously?

But, if he suddenly popped up on the market, you would jump at him. They guy is class, and has been for yrs. You have to be to get something out of the Warriors for so many yrs. Not to mention to have the balls to walk into a club and tell 3 of the clubs stalwarts to hit the bricks if they don't like the way the club is being run. And it payed off, cos look at them now. I don't really put a lot of stock into the theory you came up with, and idk if it means you wouldn't take Cleary. If it does i suggest a re-think. We need a coach with Cleary's balls and to walk into the club and tell anyone who has a problem with whose in charge, there's the door, regardless of who it is.

The Friedman's couldn't train a donkey to win the Melbourne Cup

In my opinion , we are still a donkey

I can't see any coach making substantial changes to our playing fortunes until we have much better facilities , playing roster and catch up to the heavyweights of the NRL with our S&C and recovery processes

Happy, we have to start sometime and somewhere in making these changes and 2014 is the best time to start with a new Board, CEO and Operations Manager. A new coach who is determined and dedicated in cohesion with these people will put us on track to achieve these goals. Need I mention Penrith and Souths as examples?

Harry Bath won his first premiership as a coach at his 3rd club.
Wayne Bennett won his first premiership at his 2nd club
Jerry Brien won his first premiership with his 2nd club
Bob Fulton won his first premiership at his 2nd club
John Lang won his first premiership at his 2nd club
Warren Ryan won his first premiership at his 2nd club
Tim Sheens won his first premiership at his 2nd club

Ok then macdougal

Let's sign our new coach based on that theory
Pay em millions and hope for the best
