Nathan Cleary

I don't think fathers coaching sons in the top grade is a good idea. Most sons seem to want to make their own mark on the game without the assistance of their 'famous' dads. Has there been a precedent of a father coaching his son in the ARL/NRL? I can't think of any.

Unca Wayne and Darius Bennett blow that theory out of the water…

Bob Fulton coached his son Scott at Manly...

Not since the good Old Days of John and Martin Lang.

There IS a 4th generation kid at the Titans now, Max King

John and Martin Lang won a premiership together in 2003

Triple M’s Supergrass has some big mail on who will take over as coach of the embattled club.
\
\
“The mail I’m getting is the Tigers are desperate to sign Ivan Cleary as head coach, not just because of his coaching ability but with the added sweetener of luring young Nathan Cleary to the Tigers,” he said, on Triple M Grill Team.

Earlier, Ivan Cleary admitted he's interested in coaching the Wests Tigers but is yet to hear from the embattled NRL club.

Don't think there's any substance to it, just putting it on! What are your thoughts on Nathan and how would you feel if he did come. Still lives with his dad, Ivan may get in his ear…..**we'll have to wait till 2019 unless he gets a release.**

If coach Cleary signs tomorrow, the way we chew up and spit out coaches, he wont be here in 2019!

Jason Taylor/Jordan Rankin
Wayne Bennett/Darius Boyd

Chris Anderson I believed coached Scott Anderson at Sharkies.

We half had one, Shannon McDonnell and Wazza.

I coached my sons to an under 9's championship. Undefeated and one was man of the match every week. One was coaches player of the week and one of his other 11 brothers would win players player every week. They were tredecaplets.

Young Cleary is signed to the end of 2019 I think.

Big deal all Contracts are broken these Days.
Would swap Brooks and Moses to the Panthers as a package deal to see Cleary in our colours but these guys got the Club by the Curlies and the Club are stupid enough to pay overs .

Ben at Storm and Jarrad at Sharks, barely lasted a season each. Does Hopoate still coach his youngins around Manly?

I don't think he will come and by all accounts he has similar deficiencies in defence to our guys.

Cleary is miles ahead of Brooks and Moses in every aspect of the game.
No one has similar deficiencies to Brooks and Moses. They are world leaders in missed tackles.
Cleary might miss a a tackle or two but he is a good defender plus his only 18 and played 16 games.
What's Brooks and Moses's excuse?

Yes Jarrad it was, thanks, I was confusing with Scott Fulton. I remember at LO, I think it was Jarrad's debut, Dene Halatau playing in the centres and just running over the top of him for 2 tries, don't think he played again after that year.

I don't rate N Cleary as highly as many do and I suspect he benefits greatly from playing behind one of the best packs in the comp.

I wonder how effective he would be behind our sack of pillows.

It's not just that, he's played 18 games total, not even a full season. His team is doing alright and they are a good pack as you note, but I can think of so many halves who hit the ground running but can't necessarily sustain that over multiple seasons.

So the kid looks calm and collected, looks like a really sensible footballer, but how about if his team misses the finals for a few years, or if a few injuries strike?

People said all this stuff about Brooks after 20-odd games… and he hasn't really gotten any better since then.

Don't over think things with your 1 sentence replies :brick: .

If a Club wants to they drop players to Reserve Grade and force there hand in breaking Contracts and moving them on Farah , Shaun Fenson are 2 players that come to mind that have had that treatment .
Farah played the hard ball approach but eventually you will act.

Keiran Foran played his cards to break his Contract with the Eels.
Also for e.g if Broncos had a halfback coming through that they would like to bring him on a year early that could be tempting for a Club as Ben Hunt won't be there from 2018 onwards and can force an early release .
There are ways of breaking Contracts Nathan Clearly said himself that he had a clause in his Contract that allowed him to break the terms if his Father Coached another NRL side , he then has had that removed in his new deal but there are ways for Players and Clubs to break up deals .
There are all different types of clauses inserted in all players Contract that allow them to break away from Contracts .

Tapau, Sironen, Tim Grant, ElijahTaylor, Farah all under contract and left, and that is just a few around our club
