Maybe thats why Nathan didn't sign, wasn't sure if his dad would be with us next year?

Cheer up.... It's not as bad as you make out
I'm not upset that Cleary didn't sign Ink , we could fix our weaknesses up if we knew what the coaching situation was …...
Ivan's coach for next two years last I heard
Maybe , but how many times have the Broncos and Bennett confirmed he will only be coaching until the end of 2019
4 times …...maybe more
We need some confirmation , the lack of it means everyone is on holidays or something else is on the table
Time will tell .....
@ said:@ said:@ said:@ said:I agree 100%, the coaching situation is hindering our recruitment, Ivan should see this and make some kind of statement in regards to his WestsTigers future ASAP, the fans would appreciate it, and the media can find another story to chase then.

You literally have zero concrete evidence to support the suggestion that recruitment is being hindered. We literally just signed two players in the last 4 weeks, one of them a very good prospect.
And if you heel to the media every time they generate a story you don't like, then it becomes the tail that wags the dog. No.
You do realise that Cleary did make a statement about his future, and guess what, the story is still around. How many statements does he need to make to bury it?
This definitely can’t be true
The mess at Wests Tigers has cost the club the prized signature of match-winning Cronulla hooker James Segeyaro.
I’m hearing that Segeyaro was all set to sign with the Tigers a couple of weeks ago - and would have been a great recruit for the club.
But the uncertainty over the future of coach Ivan Cleary at the time saw Segeyaro’s management baulk at the prospect of joining the club.
The Sharks star is now tossing up between the Bulldogs and the Knights, with Cronulla unlikely to keep him.
Other players have also doubtless taken a similar approach to Segayaro, steering clear of the Tigers.
Cleary has committed to the club for next season, but the way rugby league works, he could still end up at the Panthers.
And if he is not at Penrith in 2019, he will almost certainly be there in 2020.

I would think the Re-signing of Robbie Farah ended the interest in Segy myself..
You can believe the Lurker tho if you wish…
@ said:If, as the Lurker describes Segeyaro a prized signing, Segeyaro is having problems finding a club?
@ said:@ said:@ said:@ said:Now that Nathan’s future is secure at Penrith for many years do you think we should we look at Jerome Luai? Pretty exciting prospect with Xfactor, stuck behind the more established spine players at the Panthers. Can play a few positions and would come fairly cheap. I think he would a great pick up for us - what do others think?
The Panthers dont lose players like Jerome Luai.
Just because they are in reserve grade doesnt mean they arent important to the franchise.

Bit of plagiarism bathurst tiger or dual personality maybe?
Thank you. I thought i was losing my mind.
@ said:In regards to the Segeyaro rumour. I wouldn't think we would have offered him more than 2 years, so why should he care who the coach will be in 2021 when he might not even be here himself? Doesn't make sense.

Well he might care about who the coach will be in 2019 and 2020 and there are some in the media (Brent Read for example) making comments along the lines of "I'll be shocked if Ivan Cleary is coach of the Tigers in 2019". That would be enough to spook some.

It’s not about believing it’s about the fact this is destabilising our club and will continue to do so until it’s shot down. The media is not letting this go and it’s all of them not just one or two. Anyone who thinks that players don’t read up on these things is living with the fairies.

Not a fact bro. No factual evidence of club destabilisation. Rumour-mongering yes, but facts, no.
And anyway, Segeyaro is hardly the player to be leaning on if you wanted a straight story, the bloke has a chequered history wrt off-field goings on and contract agreements. Now is that a fact, or more innuendo?
Regardless, Ivan Cleary making a public statement, you would think, should have nothing to do with the potential signature of Segeyaro or other player. Consider yourself to be the player, negotiating with the club. You ask them, is this media speculation true, that you might leave the club? Coach says "no mate, I'm seeing out my contract". And what, you don't believe him because The Mole and The Lurker posted some contrary rumours last week? Fair dinkum, you go to the source and ask the people themselves.
Living with the fairies is thinking players take the media at face value and don't investigate the truth for themselves, or don't already know the truth from connections within the game.

No point in going round in circles. You think this has no affect on the tigers and I think this has great affect on us. Almost every media organisation is running with this Ivan story and who will coach us next year or the year after ….. I think this is detrimental to our brand and to our recruitment. It is creating instability and once again putting us in the news for all the wrong reasons. It won’t stop now and it won’t stop next year. I’m happy to cut our losses and move to McGuire or the storm assistant for next year. You think otherwise and that’s up to you. No right or wrong in this messy situation.

Your quote is interesting 5 yr deals seldom work.
Haha yeah that was one of my first thoughts too…add to that the possibility of dad joing him later (or sooner) ...who knows how that could work out?

Good stuff! Perception becomes reality unless you change the perception. The rugby league world perceives that Ivan is not being totally up front. This would be affecting us either retaining or recruiting. Needs to end one way or another
