New coach Mick Potter key to Tim Moltzen revival at Wests Ti

20 mins ago i heard James Tedesco on 2ue he said Tim Moltzen will be fullback and he will prob play in nsw cup and he said the training has been hard over the summer and said to watch out for Luke Brooks this year.

Go Timmy, Hope he proves every one wrong and sets the world on fire. We made it to the Semi Finals in 2011 with Timmy playing there and I can't see why we can't do it again. GO MOLTZY!

Teddy has 30 mins NRL experience and is coming off a knee reco
Moltz has nearly 100 games (amazing) and fully fit afaik.

Moltz isnt perfect, neither is Teddy….I can see why Potters gone the way it looks like he will.

Criticism so soon a tad harsh not a tackle made or ball kicked

Firstly Moltzen had a hamstring issue during the off season

Secondly you are basically saying that because Tedesco is less experienced that he should miss out

Tedesco showed more in the 30 minutes he played than Moltzen did in 95% of his games as fullback

My point is Ink that until the trials are over that no decisions should be made on basically any position ,especially fullback . I would view it for any position , if Brooks has a mindblowing start in the trials we should be looking at him as well If they are good enough they are old enough Experience should not come into it
We all need to be DeSheensified

Is there a course we can all attend at our local TAFE that will fix this ailment

cannot believe some people are playing the old card that teddy is not ready after his knee operation, if hes training well and he gets through friday night hes ready. moltzen will need to improve 500 % two even get a look in thats how poor he was last year.and looking at teddy on the box tonight he looks like he has bulked up a fair bit.

Yeh a dicky hammy compared to a 10 month knee job - i see the relevance 😱pen_mouth:

Only one can play fullback, one of the two MUST miss out

I'd say tentative decisions have already been made, you must make decisions going into trials, you hope your initial hunch is right but know theres time for changes if need be…we are assuming decisions HAVE been made

Experience DOES come into it...especially in a critical position of halfback

===========================================================
BP....off season training and one trial against fringe first graders does NOT make you ready for a 26 week NRL season...believe me. I was Moltzens biggest critic but for all his flaws he has some brilliant aspects to his game, open your eyes

Timmy Moltzen can play he showed us back in 2009 and on the winning run we had in 2011 hopfully Mick Potter gets him back to his best and will see how he from there. And mabe in the future James Tedesco will play on the wing or take over as fullback.

Ink Moltzen has had many leg issues including an ACL as well Hip flexors ,calves injuries and hammy injuries he is sounding similiar to Wade MacKinnon except Mac was a good fullback

Personally I reckon if both are even during the trials Tedesco should get the job , Moltzen has had too many chances and Tedesco is the future of this team

Next question Ink Experience means something Well neither Miller or Brooks have it really at NRL level so why would it matter if we went Brooks or Miller

For me he has a month to prove he is a different footballer. I believe all players deserve a fair crack under a different coach. If they dish off up the same rubbish they have over the years i want to see changes after a month or six weeks. Thats where I am hoping Potter can differ to Sheens. By making performances count for something. By making people accountable.

Personally I would be surprised if Moltzen could gain attributes like toughness and courage simply through a change of coach. That comes from inside. It would be Tedesco for mine but I am willing to give all players including similar underperforming players Blair, Ashford, Lawrence, Tuquiri etc a month to show something new and different. Otherwise reseve grade and promote people who are hungry, willing and in form.

Some people need to get a grip.

Everyone ink is saying is correct.

Tedesco has played like 8 games of NYC and 30mins of 1st grade. He is coming back from one of the worst injuries you can get and hasn't run a ball competitively for 11 months. Come round 1 he will have played 1 reserve grade trial and probably a part in 2 first grade trials.

Moltzen has been disappointing in most of his first grade career at fullback, however he has a blank slate as far I'm concerned. He knows the play makers and early on potter may just look for us to to be conservative will be figures out what he wants to do withus. Moltzen has the talent and here's hoping potter can get the best out of him. If not I have no doubts meaney, Simona or teddy will replace him.

People saying we run the risk of losing him if he doesn't play is beyond ridiculous. He has just turned 20 and throwing him straight back into first grade IMO would do more harm then good. He seems to have a good head of his shoulders and willing to bide his time. Also have a look around. 13-14 nrl clubs have long term fullbacks already. His best chance to play first grade is here.

Fair point Fergie although he was ready this time last year and seemed to "know the playermakers" the way he roamed (not just backing up Benji but every play!!). He showed more in two trials and 30 minutes at Leichhardt then Moltzen has at the back in 3 years. I understand the nature of the injury though so i'm not too concerned at this stage. He is only young so your right, we don't need to rush him although if Moltzen serves up half the crap he did last year we will be struggling as a team again. I was harsh on Sheens over the years, however people thinking players will all of a sudden become different players might be surprised!

Teddy won't be going anywhere his a local junior and smart enough to know its a long season and his time will come in 2013 at some stage no need to rush.
Listening to him on the radio he sounds quite accepting of not starting in the top grade but you could feel his determination to be there eventually.

Mate I prefer tedesco over Moltzen any day of the week. I also agree about his 30mins, it was the best 30mijs from a fullback since hodgson left. My point is people acting like its the end of the world that we are picking Moltzen ahead of him for round 1 seem to be missing the bigger picture IMO. The reaction to him not being picked is like he is A bloke who has played 10 origins when he has yet to prove anything.

He can still play 20s all this year, Ben barba was one of the highest rated juniors in recent memory and it took him 3-4 years in first grade to have a good full season.

I'll admit to not being one of Moltzen's biggest fans however they say change is as good as a holiday and if I'm prepared to cut the likes of Ayshford, Blair, Lawrence and the others who played well below expectations last year a break, Moltzen deserves no less. The positive here is that the incoming coach was a fullback, and while it's foolhardy to believe that Moltzen will turn into Billy Slater over a single off-season, I do think that he will benefit from the tutelage of Potter and we may well see some improvement from him. I hope he gets it together, but if he cannot string it together under a new coach he will struggle to find a place in the starting 17 if there are no injuries.

Of course, I say this with Tedesco in mind as a first choice fullback, however he is still young and there's no point in rushing him back from an injury like that.

The ball is in Moltzen's court - I'm happy to give him a go because I know Potter will ditch him if he fails.

Put it this way, there are two options for the coach:

1\. Tell Moltzen he's the incumbent but has a talented youngster on his tail. Prove your position or lose it. Tell Tedesco you have to consistently outplay the incumbent to earn a call-up.

2\. Tell Moltzen "I've seen your tapes, not pretty stuff, I'm going to start the rookie ahead of you." Tell Tedesco "I think you are going places, you will start FB this season."

#1 makes both players work hard for their spot and gives them a goal for the season. #2 tells Moltzen he's done and Tedesco he's the new king after 30 mins. No surprise we are hearing #1 in the media.

Benjis had shoulder probs and a fractured cheekbone….most players have injury history....how far back do you wanna go???? Youre stretching a long bow digging into a players injury history

Teddys _latest_ injury is very very relevant, not having played since its occurence and subsequent rehab.

Im not arguing with you....I too, like most would prefer to see tedesco in the #1....however I merely explained WHY I think it seems Potter is going the way he'll go

You bring up experience....I mentioned Moltzen = 83 games compared to Teddy =30 mins....you then compare Miller (5 games) to Brooks (0 games) again, stretching a lonnnng bow

Moltzen is a class player we all know that. However, he has no heart and there is no way to grow a new one as far as I am aware. He could have saved countless tries in the past but was very aware of being injured in the process. Going into a tackle with your eyes shut and your head as far back on your shoulders as is humanely possible does not equate to what a fullback should be about. I don't call any player or anyone heartless off the cuff and in fact I feel a little sorry for Moltzen because he cannot change what he is. I have complete confidence that what I have just written will bear me out before too long.
