Just a thought,
Since we have lost Ellis, and there are no top shelf forwards on the market domestically.
Why aren't we looking in England for a new forward…I have no clue about the english league but I am sure some you do.
And with Potter's contacts there we should be able to find one and more importantly afford them.

Any thoughts.. :bulb:

Ellis was a bit of a one-off. Most of the English back-rowers are pretty ordinary IMO but I'm not an expert on the matter. If there's a good player out there though I don't care if they're from England, France, Samoa, or Siberia! I'm sure Potter has a good knowledge of what's over there in the ESL.

I wish we would have won a comp with Ellis :frowning: what a great player!

I was hoping the same this year after he announced he was going back home & i felt it was a disgrace how we couldn't scrape into the eight & be at least a chance of pulling it off.

There is one who's a good enough replacement from over here but it looks as though he's headed to the eels

That would be Gareth Hock. A 29 year old backrower who was banned for 2 years in 2009 following a positive cocaine test.

Talk is he is going to Eels on a big 4 year contract too.

Yep remember him Thanks for that LaT

Nothing special player in my opinion , no where near Ellis ability or workrate wise

Would not be surprised if Potter is scouring the UK for a prop.

GARETH Hock has been backed to become a huge hit if he switches to the NRL – by a man who knows a thing or two about making an impression Down Under.

Wigan legend Bill Ashurst was a sensation during three seasons at Penrith.

Like Hock, he was an aggressive, ball-handling forward who represented his country – and he reckons the 29-year-old is capable of making a big impact if he joins Parramatta next season.

Ashurst said: “I think Gareth would do really well over there.

“He’s a terrific forward who asks for no quarter and gives none, he has a great pair of hand and is a real threat.

“We’ve seen other English players go over there and do well, and there’s no reason he can’t do the same.”

Hock, who is set to play for England against France tomorrow, is said to be keen on the move to Australia and the Eels have confirmed they are talking to Wigan about a transfer fee.

Ashurst can see why the move would appeal.

“When I went, it was a chance to test myself against the best – and he’ll want to do the same,” said Ashurst, who made 186 appearances for hometown club Wigan during two spells in the 1960s and ‘70s.

“There are only five, maybe six, quality teams in Super League, so every other game is nonsensical.”

Wigan chairman Ian Lenagan and Hock have declined to comment on Parramatta’s interest.

ONE of Ashurst’s former Wigan team-mates, Keith Ashcroft, has died. He was 72.

Ashcroft made 59 appearances for the club between 1968 and ‘70 – including a Challenge Cup final appearance.

Potter didn't have much to work with at Bradford and the players he had at Stains would all be staying there since they've lost Graham and now Flannery has retired. There are some good young props: Chris Hill and Tyrone McCarthy from Wire, Liam Watts from KR. Anthony Mullaly from Widnes, who played 20s for Brisbane Broncos. Farrell and Mossop from Wigan could make it in the NRL. Most of these players are still under 23 so they could benefit from coming out here and getting a couple of full pre-seasons traniing. Over there, they have virtually no pre-season. They finish their GF the week after ours, then they start playing trial games on Boxing Day!
