I know this has been discussed before but it would be nice if we had a plan along the lines of Penrith - we need to be lobbying and have a vision for the south west inplace to have any chance of securing funding for a stadium in the Macarthur region. If we want to be a powerhouse in the NRL we need a first class stadium as a single home ground and dump the 3 grounds policy. This is not a Leichhardt oval bashing - the point is a stadium will be built in the west/south west and as a club we need to do everything to ensure it is built in the Macarthur area.

Unfortunately for our club, the state governemtn would be looking to build a stadium that can be multi use, forcing other clubs to dump their home grounds and use that instead. Building in the Macarthur region is great for the tigers but doesn't really benefit any other teams (from any code).

My guess is they will build somewhere between Parra and Penrith and force us to choose between Allianz, ANZ or new stadium.

Yea you are probably right - and myabe the 3 outer western sydney teams should all be playing out of there

I think I'd have my money on Parramatta at this stage. It seems to offer more geographical advantages for what the state govt hopes to achieve than Campbo or Penrith.

Really? so GWS and WSW wouldn't get any use out of it?

I don't think it would be their first preference. You get the feeling that WSW are pretty happy with Parra and BWS sorry GWS would prefer Blacktown. Besides do we really want Campo adjusted to accommodate the AFL crowd?

For the AFL to get any use out of it the ground would have to be an oval, thus rendering it utterly terrible for viewing RL or Soccer

GWS only pay lip service to Blacktown anyway. They play most of their games out of the showground at Homebush. In fact looking at their website they are playing a total of 0 games out of Blacktown this year but 3 out of Canberra.

I agree parramatta would have to be the favorite at this stage. Though the one thing counting against them is the fact that ANZ is not too far down the road.

What I find interesting is that it is reported that Wests, Parra and Penrith are fighting it out for a bigger stadium, I am yet to hear a response from the Wests Tigers which outlines their vision for an expanded Campbelltown Stadium.

They'd serve different purposes much like MCG and Docklands which are pretty close together.

They pay lip service at the moment because it's a glorified training ground but I'm pretty sure there preference would be a ground in Blacktown (or nearby) designed around the needs of AFL. Obviously they won't schedule home and away games there (I believe the NAB cup is being played there) because it's a bit embarrassing but if there was a 40,000 seater out there they'd take it with out blinking. IMO anyway

No, but the most likely way of getting a ground built is if it can accommodate other teams as well

Enough with bloody oval grounds. We need more rectangular grounds where the fans are close to the action. GWS have their stadium already.

Current grounds are not ideal for various reasons:
- Campbelltown is currently under-utilised with only 4 games per year. It is also very far from other clubs so wouldn't be able to share.
- Likewise, Penrith is very far from other clubs
- Parramatta is more central but is not convenient to get to. The train station is too far away and there is hardly any decent parking.

I'd love for western Sydney to have a shiny new 30-40k capacity rugby league stadium to play out of.

- If it were at say Blacktown Olympic Park, we could share it 3 ways with Parra and Penrith.
- If it were at somewhere around Liverpool we could share it 2 ways with Canterbury.

I'd be happy to play the majority of our games there if the facilities were up to scratch.

I just want the Tigers to at least throw their hat in the ring to at least have a vision for the possibility of expansion in South West Sydney which would correlate with the population growth. By no means do i want to abandon Leichardt, but if it is possible to have a pupose built stadium primarily for the Tigers, is this not something we should be supportive of?

If it isn't at Parramatta then they're retarded.

As mentioned before GWS already have had tens of millions spent on blacktown and the upgrades to the showground so they shouldn't be a factor.

Parramatta is more centralised and can be used by Wanderers and Eels and if the ground is good enough we may even see the Dogs play there over ANZ when their deal is up.

One thing i don't get is why so many people are opposed to this. Theres a chance that we could get a new stadium in one of our heartlands and all people do is find reasons why it shouldn't be built, instead of getting behind it. I cannot for the life of me comprehend why

Well if they do it they should do it right, i don't want that AFL debacle to happen - throw in some money to make ANZ the worst stadium ever, build a training park at blacktown and then leave it for a new redeveloped showgrounds which only gets 8 games a year. That's a lot of public money blown that could've been spent on other stadiums or other things which also give a better asset for the community.

At Parramatta there is two instant tenants in the Eels and Wanderers and good potential for use in derby games between western sydney teams in a location that is centralised.

So long as parking/public transport facilities are acceptable and the design has a steep gradient for seating which is also close to the action then it will be great.
