Newcastle in huge trouble - financially

Is it now up to the members to get rid of the board?
>
That is not my call.
>
You said previously you could not understand how a city that exports 40 per cent of the state's wealth still struggles to finance a footy team. You said it was incomprehensible, not exactly a ringing endorsement for the current management structure. Can you comprehend the negative campaign Tew and Burraston appear to have mounted against your takeover bid?
>
It has been disappointing but the Knights have a long tradition of not being able to help themselves. I believe the community deserves better.

Translation: I will get what I want.

Correctamundo!!!!

Ayyyyyyyyy!!

He will pander to the members, and they'll turf the board. Tinkler will fill the board with his own men and then the privitisation will take place.

It's a no-brainer, Burraston and Tew are all on borrowed time. They are stalling because they know as soon as TSG takes over, he'll put his own men in the right places and they will be out on their proverbial.

I love this though:

What do you say to claims you haven't been open and honest in the offer you have made to the members?

"I am very comfortable with the conduct of myself and my team. The best interests of the Newcastle community have always been at the top of our agenda…..."

No direct answer to given the question of "openness & honesty" - followed by this:

Kade Snowden. Did you ring him last week to talk about returning to Newcastle? Have you spoken to him at all?

"Yes I did. I didn't tell anyone. I don't need permission to use a phone….."

(Despite official denials from his people!!!!)

He will be a complete menace to the NRL as a whole if he gets the Knights!!! Ethics is a word he is yet to become acquainted with!!!

Hence why he is a successful businessman. Ethics and ruthlessness in the business world are not mutually exclusive Red

I definitely agree while he'll be good for the Knights, I'm not so sure on the impact he will have on the NRL in general will be as positive. I can see him being a meddler…

Fair call CB - but he is walking into a more regulated world in professional rugby league!!

It is not like the A-League where billionaire owners can lock out fans etc!

I also know he loves a punt!!

Reading that interview Tinkler sounds like a petulent child. Taking his bat and ball and going to burger king because they won't give him what he wants straight away.

He's not being petulant MM, he's being savvy. Appealing to the members via media. He is trying to instill the idea that the Knights board have no idea and trying to get the opinion out there that he genuinely has the clubs interests at heart.

Definitely more to this than being reported in the media. Tinkler didnt get rich by being on the bad side of too many deals. The board's job is to be financially prudent and look after the best interests of the club and its constituents. Why is Tinkler tring to push this through in such a hurry? If it is the best deal for the club it will happen eventually.
Tinkler also uses the media well with the timing around Idris. Will probably never happen but gets the fans excited.

Don't know how quotes like this from a SMH article in Oct 2010 him will endear him to Newcastle's mainly working class population;

''You're a f–-ing deadbeat, people like me don't bother with f---ing you,'' he said. ''You climb out of your bed every morning for your pathetic hundred grand a year, good luck.''
Angered by a previous story about his horse racing interests, he added: ''There's a tall poppy syndrome; you would have heard of that because you hang around with the deadbeats and the losers who have done nothing with their lives.''

Wish I earned a hundred grand a year, must make me less than pathetic by his reasoning. He sounds like a jerk, maybe that's why their board don't want his money.

Look at his track record in the racing industry. At last count he's had about 53 trainers. He is an over achiever who thinks it is his god given right to get his own way on everything. I commend the Newcastle Board for this line of action
Listen to Robbie Tew’s interview from the BSB this morning and I think some of you (hopefully the smarter ones) will get a better understanding of the shenanigans currently in play

It doesn't matter what we think though Alf. I have no idea whats going on behind closed doors, but as I said earlier what I do know is that Tinkler is undermining the integrity of the current board via the media in an attempt to influence those who do matter in his plans: the Knights members.

If there are shenanigans afoot, Tew & Burraston need to come forward and air these issues otherwise they will almost certainly be punted and the members deserve to be fully informed before making a such a crucial decision.

The Newcastle members should be made aware the devil resides in the detail.
A business man of his stature knows how to assemble a tempting deal with many hidden layers.

I hope the Newcastle faithful do their homework.

I don't believe for a minute that he didn't know that Snowden was poised to sign! The timing was far too coincidental. So, given that he states that he didn't know, his credibility is questionable. Living in Newcastle I have heard things about his demeanor and I am not convinced that he is a good match. If he is doing this for Newcastle then he should let the members maintain majority ownership. Maybe he wants the tax deduction because they never make a profit…....

The Knights need his money, I am just not sure that they need him with it!

The 3 things that stick out to me are that

1\. It's to be run as a non-profit. So Tinkler would never make any money from it.
2\. At any point, the club can be bought back only by the capital Tinkler has invested (i.e. His time and efforts won't be a factor)
3\. The business is currently unviable and without a decent leagues club, unlike every other team in the comp.

For that privilege, he is paying them $4mil in cash and a 10 year, $10mil guarantee over the sponsorship (currently $7mil, so $3mil a year)

So imagining trying to be that charitable, handing over a massive cheque where you will gain nothing and then having people tell him it's not enough.

He just simply wants to get rid of those idiots now so that he doesn't have to deal with their additional requests.

Spot on Red, he's a liar, hes making offers to players and hes not even connected with the club.
Hes an arrogant philthy rich a-hole used to getting his own way

Also need to be careful around the definition of 'not-for-profit'. Profit in essence is revenue less costs. Do the costs include management fees to the Tinkler Sports Group? If so, who controls what they are?
