No contest. Cleary. Please can he bring his son with him.

I'm sure Nathan is his own man. Doubt he feels the need to follow dad.

I guess a positive out of all of this, is that if Cleary does come along he may be a link to a number of decent replacements, although I do agree I doubt Nathan will come across, unless his recents issues prove too much for Penrith. Also his defence isn't the best so I'm not sure he is what we need.

It's an exciting prospect thinking who he could attract for next year if appointed. But as someone pointed out in another thread, we'll probably only sign McQueen and an underwhelming half to replace Brooks and that will be it.

I hope for all of our sakes that our recruitment for 2018 consists of more that just McQueen. I'm not up to speed on who is available for 2018 but i was of the understanding that quite a few players around the grounds were coming on the market.

If so I think we are stronger chance of Recruiting players with Cleary than were are with JT.

Cleary would have links to Whare and Ben Matulino - both off contract and both would be welcome additions (although Matulino has been down on form and a bit injury prone lately).

I would kill for Whare. Panthers have backs coming out their backside so he could be looking for a gig. Would be nice having a calm, sane player out on the right edge who knows when to come and when to stay back.

With only 8 contracted players at this point in time past 2017 you would think there will be more 'new' signings as well as picking the eyes from the current roster..

At least the new Coach whoever it maybe gets a relatively clean slate …with no players being paid to play elsewhere so the excuse of not having his own squad wont be there ..

Tedesco Woods Nofoaluma and Seumanufagai should be retained based on performance this year..the rest should be playing for a contract...

IC for me. NRL experience. Taking a noted inconsistent team in the Warriors and a young inexperienced Panthers to the finals. I think he would be respected by the players within the organisation as well as potential targets.
I haven't posted my thoughts on JT elsewhere but I do feel a bit sorry for him. Made the big calls to stand up to RF for which I believe was best for the club. However I think it became very clear he would not be able to take us to the next level.

Don't feel sorry for JT.
We are still paying him 250k for the season.

Yeah hopefully that's made clear to the playing group, they need a rocket up them.

Ivan Cleary's demanour is very different to JT. I dont think the media or the players took JT seriously. Some of the things he said in interviews or post match conferences were very hard to fathom.

Cleary looks like he has a serious demanour ala Wayne Bennet. I reckon its just what we need. With him still heavily involved in the NRL circles i think he will have a far idea of which players he wants or wants to get rid off.

Really unrealistic mainly just a bit of fun but here is my top five coaches i would want

1\. Bellamy
2\. Kevie Walters
3\. Hasler
4\. Cleary
5\. Toovey

We need a new coach ASAP i don't think Webster will be able to win us a game.

I think it is about time Wests Ashfield bit the bullet since they own the club went full-on WT or reverted back to the Magpies. This so-called merger will never work.

What about Daley or Kev Walters?

They have coached SOO for a while and no doubt have a vision to move into club footy.

With some talent, money and really performance wise couldn't get worse a coach like those 2 could mould a nice roster and deliver some great results.

Cleary would be the short priced favourite to get the post. Given our record of coach appointment disasters in recent years, let's hope the incumbent is not signed on a long term contract.

How does the merger have anything to do with this?? We are Wests Tigers now not Balmain or the Magpies so move on.

As long as it isn't Payten, webster or any other budget coach ill be happy.

Cleary, Toovey, hasler are the kind of coaches we need to spend money. Not a pair of inconsistent halves, they should be playing for a contract.

Although i think a new coach like those i mentioned will do wonders for their game. they need a new voice. Change is as good as a holiday.

Lets hope the webster holiday doesn't go on for to long.

I'd be way more excited if Cleary was announced and his son came as a package deal.
That would be something special. Brooks sent to Newcastle, as in England.

On NRL360 last night, they ask Daley that exact question. He dodged it. All he said was that Weststigers need an experienced coach, not a rookie.

Paul Kent indicated that Cleary has already agreed to terms.

Who knows?

The man himself Ivan Cleary just stated on NRL Tonight he has had no contact from the Wests Tigers about taking over as Coach..

Who would that be?
Everyone would choose Cleary above those mentioned. Including me.
I just want Todd so it kills these halves career. Then we can move them on and buy some real players.

And who would that be?

Give me two halves who we could afford that would be any better

Foran wants back to Sydney. Much better than Brooks.
With the cash we'd have you could poach the comp.
Robbie money is clear next year. We could really buy well if we dumped one of the halves.

Foran's a mess - steer clear.

Geez Matchball you might as well buy Todd Carney to match Foran. Or even James O'Connor to replace Simona and Lovett.
We would have a full set then.

Yep…not sure what to make of that to be honest.

It is like those secret meetings that are not to secret ..you know the ones ..Mr Cleary was diplomatic in his responses as he should be ,he did say his phone has been ringing a lot !
