NFL

Hope Kaepernick the young smartarse punk gets his reality check on the biggest stage in a fortnights time, he has had a great few weeks at QB but he seems to have a pretty sizeable ego as well. Go Ravens… toppling Manning and Brady on their home turf in successive weeks is a fantastic effort and a Superbowl victory would be deserved reward.

Don't know how much I can stomach of the Harbaugh brothers. They seem to carry on like prize knobheads on the sideline every single game.

Didn't have any team that I follow in the NFL, no link to any particular city, so I was going through the logos and jerseys. At first I thought of following the Bengals but their helmets are so ugly. Didn't mind the Lions as another big cat… But I ended up going with the Ravens (ravens are close enough to magpies). That was last season, so it has been a pretty successful start to my NFL following.

Now I just need to actually watch a few more games and I'll have more of an idea of what is going on...

Kaepernick is aan interesting one. Having watched how it ended for Vick and RGIII in therms of injuries from the run I think this offensive style will not be around for long.

you are falling into the trap of labeling kaep as a system qb.
the packers game was the first game they implemented a heavy read option in the game plan.
kaep won it yesterday with his arm,the same against new england and the saints away.

he is an exceptional talent i have watched since he was in college and when he develops more touch in his passes and the little nuances of his craft he will be a leader of a new breed of qb.
mentally he is impressive when he faces adversity.he has backed uo his ints with scores the following drive and has a high rate of 1st downs after penalties the previous play.

the pistol read option is only a package in the 49er offense that kaep happens to excel at because he played it with the creator. the read option was implemented to the pistol formation in 07 when kaep was with nevada.

atlanta got sucked into outside contain while the gameplan was to hit them inside with run and pass.

going to be fascinating to see what john harbaugh comes up with to defend the 49ers.
plus what new wrinkles jim comes up with over the next 2 weeks.

And how about Alex Smith - last season he led two great drives in the final minutes against the Saints in the divisional playoffs to win the game…

Now he watches his team play in the next seasons superbowl from the bench - whilst holding a passer rating of over 100 and a completion % of 70 for the 2012/13 season.

Fickle business.

it's refreshing to see a coach who says we are trying to get better each day, actually make a move to get better when the safe option was to just go along and hope you do even though you have seen the limitations of the current squad.

while the stats of alex may look rosey, when you watch the film you see to many plays left on the field because he checked everything down to the running back, even though he had open receivers down field and time to make the throw.
just because you complete a pass, doesn't mean you took the right option.

That is all good and well, all I am pointing out is that Alex Smith is a good player - and really didn't deserve to be dropped.

Besides, a passer rating is not just based on completions. It is also YPA, TD % and INT %. Alex Smith was travelling over 100, so there was no doubt he was making plenty of good decisions.

I am not saying Alex Smith is better than Kaepernick. There are probably about 10 teams in the NFL that would dream for Alex Smith at the helm.

No doubting that Kaepernick has talent. I noticed him when he was playing for Nevada when Boise State couldnt handle his running game. In saying that, as much as I hate the Ravens, I'd rather they win then the 49'ers tie my Steelers with 6 Superbowls. Most of the people I work with are niner fans and I'm literally dying here.

I think they have a better core of LB's and that will be the a massive difference. Atlanta's plan was very effective save personel making some poor decisions and not winning the one on ones.

The niners O line is an absolute monster but the Ravens should have a shot at producing real pressure. If their line aims up I think they can limit the ground game and pressure the QB a lot better then anybody bar Seattle has done to this point.

The big bodied receivers and tight ends are where much of the game will be decided IMHO and is where I really think the Niners have a advantage.

Should be a good game, actually looking forward to the Seniors Bowl this weekend though, really interesting draft class building for next season

He comes across as a smartarse so people are going to label him that. Russell Wilson and RG3 have just as much talent as Kaepernick but you see them acting with a bit more humility on the field. Go Baltimore, give em some stick

You pretty much have described half of the entire league right there. Seems as though that its part of American sporting culture to be larger than life and to carry on like a charactertures. Funny and strange that you'd single Keapernick out when he's by no means alone

GO THE 9ERS!!!!

Nah, not really. Blokes like him who strut around kissing their own biceps like he did after his running TD against the Packers last week would irritate more people than just me. And when the Atlanta bloke barely scraped his helmet after he passed on Sunday he dropped to the turf like a sheila and got himself a penalty. One of the worst ref decisions I have seen in the NFL for awhile, he barely got touched. Ridiculous. Up the Ravens

really, now you want to just make up stories now.
he stayed on his feet and made no motion to the ref for a penalty.

he has deflected all praise to team mates in every interview and showed nothing but humility from the day he was drafted.
first one at the facility each day and last to leave.

omg,he kissed his bicep.

If you don't want to see a bloke who is up himself win a ring then you had better cancel the Superbowl forever.

Besides, I would rather see a bloke who did a bit of harmless showboating win a ring than a guy who plea-bargained out of a murder charge to testify against his "friends", hid evidence, bought the silence of two families, has 6 kids to 4 different women, and further embarrasses Christianity by telling all and sundry post-match that his team won because he asked God for help, win another. No, I do not like Ray Lewis

They are sports stars, elite sports stars.

In the US especially it takes a certain level of self confidence to make it to the big time and that can come across as cocky. it also takes, in many cases, stepping over people, paying people off and hiding indescretions.

In the end I appreciate them as atheletes playing a sport in which they are truly gifted but don't lay any faith in the type of people they are. They like everyone else is fallable, they just have the profile, adoration and money to get away with it.

Should be a stonking great game

Ray Lewis is the reason why i want them to lose.

IMO they should not be able to take the shot at goal, from in front after they score a touch down.
wherever they score, the shot should be taken from there.
