Nice Comeback from Chris Lawrence

I didnt comment on Chris last week cos circumstances were very unfair.

Today he was good. But gee, why does he not attempt any footwork??? He doesnt have to be a big stepper, but he needs to step a little.

He has never had a step in him.

There is no doubt he has lost a yard but geez he still runs a good line. Happy to see him keep getting picked.

Yep good to see him have a good game, think hes more a wet tracker than a dry sprinter

I was thinking the same thing in the opening minutes. Lyon only caught him out once, which is good effort for anyone opposing him.

Looked a lot better. Has always run a beautiful line. Still lacks pace and defence is still a concern to me. Needs to stop rushing in in defence; I don't think he has the pace to shut the ball down. Nearly cost us early in the first half when he left Richards facing a two on one. Thankfully Lyon shovelled the ball into touch.

Agree with someone above. I dearly hope confidence is one of his issues. May do him a world of good to score a try like that.

FYI Lawrence shuffled in as per structure, no defensive error.
Lawrence was strong, whenever he has been in the centre's this year he has been ok.

Yep. People who criticise him for that obviously have little idea of how you are meant to defend on the edge.

I've said before he is my favourite player, and have been waiting for ages for him to have a good game - I was losing hope!
I thought he should've been dropped to regain form but am very happy with how he went today. Yes!
As for his style, I think he has never been a stepper and his attacking game is all about running a good line hard and straight; it's just that in previous years he just hadn't been getting the ball for him to break through.
Only one game, but really happy he went well, and hope he can really get some momentum from today.

I thought he played like he usually does, no better no worse!

Jamie Lyon had a shocker today, i wonder if Manly fans are saying he is washed up.

every game i hope to see the ol' chris lawrence- today the way he was playing i am sort of convinced he should be in the backrow sooner rather than later.. he could potentially kill it over there. right now, our starting backrow of bodene and fulton is less than impressive- lawrence and sirro in the future along with sue could be a real threat.

Will have to have a look at the replay when it is online. Certainly remember it being Lawrence's misread/mistiming - are you suggesting Richards didn't jam in on Lyon quickly enough?

The wet track probably suited his lack of pace and lateral movement against Lyon. However he had a soil game. Still far from convinced.

Soil - good ol autocorrect strikes again!

I'm not sure his body would stand up to playing as a forward. As it is it feels like one more major injury could be career ending.

not at all blaming Richards, extra man created inside brooks and Lawrence shuffle in together (as per structure) however don't shut it down, Richards plays a holding role, well, had the pass went to hand, cover would have had to pick it up. Although not shut down, that is how the structure is supposed to work.

Yeah but that was precisely my point - Lawrence wasn't quick enough to make it in to shut the play down, and when the ball got outside him Lyon had burnt him on the outside which brought Richards in to take Lyon. I wasn't questioning his decision making, I was saying he lacked the pace to move in and then move back out to cover Lyon.

He's class. Give him time and he'll start flying again. Wet track or no.

We all hope for him to start flying again….wasn't flying last week.

If he finds form and starts bagging the tries again (he's only 25 still)… oh man look out top 4 for sure. I'd even think of him at 5\8 #anyonebutbraith

He got a great try showing a lot of effort and threw a brilliant pass out to Richards when Pat took off down the sideline in the 2nd half only to kick it back inside and it covered by Manly. I thought that was a nice play. Not the same speed as the right side attack . Hoping Lawrence has an injury free year and picks up more confidence and pace again. Glad to see him have a good game.

We all want Lawrence to succeed and hoping yesterday was a step in the right direction.

We have the forwards to go forward, spine is developing well and need the centres and wingers to score tries.

Lawrence seem to do a great job on Lyon who is the best centre in the game and has been for a while.

Glad that Lawrence has proven us wrong as we wanted him to do well. That is the best way to answer critics. Wishing him the best and an injury free year. He has shown a lot of improvement and when his speed comes back and his timing improves, he will make a very good centre. Lyon is the best in the business along with Matai, yesterday Lawrence shown he is not far behind. With a bit of improvement, he will be amongst the best. He has to show consistency for the rest of the year though.
