Nightclubs and Stomping Grounds

Seriously amazing times watching some of the best gigs at all those above mentioned joints as well as The Bayview tavern Gladesville which saw bands such as INXS ,chisel amongst so many other bands Narrabeen Antler was known for the Oils residing for a good while, The joint (name escapes me at the moment)at Dural had many gigs as well. The Manly Vale did its stuff as well as The Venue at Dee Why

Pokies and State Govts certainly killed those wonderful musical moments

I’ve witnessed many a great gig at the Annandale hotel, Metro, Gaelic Club, Narrabeen rsl, Newtown social club, the factory, etc. Mainly saw a lot of fine Aussie bands throughout the 90s to now, You Am I, Jebediah, the Vines, Powderfinger, Tumbleweed, some are still going thankfully.

Newtown Social Club - did that used to be the Sando? (Sandringham Hotel)

I’m not sure sorry mate. This was maybe 3-4 years ago, saw You Am I backed up by this amazing band called the Sigit from Thailand. Nice little venue though!

Frequented many of these myself and saw a lot of those bands. Add the Landsdowne, Vic on the park, Sandringham Hotel.

It was a great scene throughout the 90s!!

Those times will come back

For live Music, the Bridge Hotel opposite the old Balmain Leagues club....last renovated in the 70's and still going strong.

My brother (who was about 19 at the time) got “escorted” out by a bunch of bikies from this place almost 20 yrs ago. Our mum still wants to go back & have words with them!

Plenty of good bands & solo artists still playing here.

The Bayview was my local growing up & would’ve loved to see inxs there. By the time I was gig-ready they were playing the old ent centre!

Growing up in Five Dock my Friday nights were split between Haberfield Rowers and Balmain Leagues. Anyone remember John Jansen? Played 2nd row for St George in 70's to early 80's. He was a teacher at my old high school (Drummoyne Boys) after I left there in 73. Whenever he turned up at Balmain Leagues on a Friday night, he'd be up on the stage belting out tunes with the lead singer. Funny thing was, he'd invariably get given points in the man of the match voting when Saints played the next day. Must have been something in our beer!!

I saw INXS there too back in the days it was known as the Pickled Parrot.
I still get out and about seeing live music in Sydney. It's nothing like it was in the eighties but there are some great smaller venues around Marrickville that we go to regularly that feature both seasoned professional musicians, as well as young ones starting out.

Yeah Manly Vale was rocking in the north..Richard Clapton left many girls on the avenue.. Ballina RSL with James Reyne and Aussie Crawl , Glen Shorrock.and LRB . But. the most memorable was Tropicana when you couldn’t get a drink on Sundays .. To quote Richard .. The Best Days of Our Lives

Fisherman’s wharf on the Gold Coast, seen Nirvana as a support act to the Violent Femmes as well as hoodoo gurus & hunters & collectors. Powderfinger at the Paddo Barracks every second Friday (with $3 bucket of spirits), Hole at the Roxy, 2 Live Crew at Berties, very different times. Always loved going to Twin Towns, Larry Carowa used to work there & is a bigger legend off the field as he was on it.

Wasn’t it the Violent Femmes as the headline act with Nirvana as a supporting act?
