No goal kicker for three years = farcical

It’s a sick joke.

Everyone is talking about the last second miss, but the first pen to go up 8-0 was a gift also that 99% of kickers make.

That goes over and we still draw.

It has to be fixed.

Momo was great tonight BTW. Excellent positional play. But he is a stop gap, as is Mbye....and Esan is not even a back up.

It was always going to cost us and it has.

Panthers loss earlier also.

This thread going off half-cocked for a second-choice goal kicker, third choice in 2019, who has played 9 FG games in his whole career for missing a pressure kick.

I get it, it was a pressure kick and Marsters kicked poorly first half of the year, but Mbye has been kicking reasonably well and obviously he went off injured and Marsters has sworn off any backup role.

If we could have scored just 1 more try off the MOUNTAINS of possession we had, or close out that Bulldogs 3-try period, or not give away those stupid penalties to give Bulldogs try-yielding possession, or not throw dumb intercepts...

So I get it, goal kicking could have been better, but it would be like complaining that the players got tired because 2 of them went down very early. We had plenty of ball to win that and we weren't enterprising enough to trouble the Dogs.

Also that BS Garner sin-bin caused Tigers to shift to conservative mode, and whilst that makes sense for the 10-minute period, they didn't shift back into proper gear until it got late.

Also why the eff didn't Garner run further around to place the ball? He beat Tolman and DWZ, he could have potentially gone under the posts.

@jirskyr I was wondering that aswell, but I think he looked like his leg was close to the dead ball line and was losing balance so didn’t want to risk it.

No mate, this is not a reaction.

Tonight was just there for all to see, but it has been going on for ages and you know it. Panthers game was lost directly also...as were games last year.

As was momentum all the times we went up by 4 and 4 whilst opponents went up by 6 and 6.

@hugh1954 34 years old, 300+ first grade games, 400+ goals, 16 years experience. In pro sports there are times for professionals, time for legends to step up. A few defining moments in ones career to imprint your legacy, to inspire your team. Benji should have taken that ball and although he hasnt kicked for a few years, taken all the pressure and kicked it. He should have never put Momo, a kid, a 3rd line kicker playing his 5th game? in that situation. Times like that you need a leader, someone for the team to rely on. The Tigers had no leaders tonight.

Couldn’t agree more. I love Benji but crap like this hurts his legacy.

The club criminally undervalues goal kicking. The supposed first and second string options we have had in recent years have no business goal kicking.

Chanel Harris-Tavita had a fantastic game at 5/8 for the Warriors on Friday, he can kick goals.

I don't know if he would be a better long term goal kicker them Momorovski but he looks more confident kicking them.

Just for those that forget
NO GOAL KICKER = NO FINALS FOOTY ! this is the simplest equation of the game , but as with everything Weststigers it is fools paradise!

This is certainly has been one of our issues for some time. If we had a goal kicker this year we would be eyeing of a spot in the top 4.

Imagine if Benji took it and missed it. It would have been worth us losing to see the meltdowns.

As @Madge wrote above, it was plain as day that Momirovski was nervous as hell. I expected that Benji would involve himself in that ever so critical play, whether by simply calming him down and allowing Paul to focus, or taking the reins if necessary. Also reckon that the coach should have known that such a crucial moment required attention.

@formerguest There has been plenty of crucial moments that the coach has failed to act this season during games .. not really impressed to be honest .

For next year I would look at:
Andre Niko 21, 76.9 conversion rate, Winger/Fullback (Raiders/Mounties)
Marwene Hiroti, 20 76.8 conversion rate, Winger/Fullback/Centre (Souths)
Adam Keighran, 22, 74.4 conversion rate, Five-eight/half (warriors)
Marcus Jensen 22, 81.8 conversion rate, Wing/Centre (Mackay)
