Nofoaluma - Contract Thread..

Yeah I was thinking 350 really should be enough to secure him and I'd think long and hard before throwing too much more at him. If I was him I'd only be signing for 2 years though and backing myself to become a more complete winger with the skillset to present as a genuine fullback option for a rival club.

I think the value of a good "hit-up" winger has increased. Especially with our pack, a good start to the set can be vital.

Spot on Masterton. With Nofo and Suli carting early in the set the pigs can do the simple stuff - get over the advantage line and look for an offload or quick ptb.

We need to sign someone who does the dirty yards and he does it week in week out.It really is important to have a back who can do it to lighten the workload of our pigs.
He does it so well he is a priority signing like Tedesco/Woods but he needs a centre inside him who can tackle and read defence or he ends up looking bad because of the imposter inside him.

Actually Nofo & Suli had similar stats vs Panthers:

Suli: 13 runs, 118 metres, 1 line break, 4 tackle breaks

Nofo: 16 runs, 121 metres, 0 line breaks, 5 tackle breaks

Great to have some power on both wings!!

Would like to know how much we are looking to pay him, and compare that to someone like Mansour. The club has got itself into its current cap position by paying overs for players. Nofa brings a lot of good things to the team through the metres he makes and the the work he does, but does have a couple of worrying traits as well.

I rate Nofo highly as a winger, primary issue I think that keeps his price down is he doesn't have much utility, I think he's a fairly ordinary FB and a slightly better centre.

Nofo and suli should have a roaming role like radraga doing at the eels

That's not so much a role as a player just taking initiative because they want to be involved in the game. Nofo does do that from time to time, he gets through plenty of work in attack for a winger. It would be good to see him run some inside lines like Semi does though. Given Nofo's tackle breaking ability he could cause some real damage doing that.

Yes but mostly one out run type of stuff. Would be good seeing some set plays with them on the inside.

Great in attack, very poor in defence. Unless he can learn to stay on his wing I'd say bye, bye.

The guy playing inside him gives him no choice. Glad you aren't in charge of recruitment.

I thought he was close to our best last week, one of the few that didn't give up.He would definitely benefit from a good centre inside him.

I'd take Nofo behind Teddy and Woods and ahead of the halves, but that's probably just my dislike of them and the 'potential' buzzword. You don't pay a million a year for potential, and in my mind Nofo has earned his pay day ahead of Brooks and Moses. The difference Suli has made in carting it out our end has been immense, and really alleviates pressure that Rankin and Kev built last year.
In terms of the Radradra comparison, I don't think it's that straight forward. Nofo beats a lot of tackles (especially in our half) by half-stopping and shrugging off defenders, Semi just straight up runs through them. But hey, more Nofo is never a bad thing.
With our young forwards kind of stagnating - I think all bar Aloiai have stalled or gone back (even my man Ava) - at the moment it puts more priority on Woods' signature (which was never in doubt), but Nofo is a clear third for me. Pass him the ball and something happens, he almost inevitably breaks a tackle or two and the offload has really added another string to his bow. Until I can say the same about either of the halves (making something happen), then they'll have to join the queue

Yeah you're probably right, but Suli could be good running that inside line given his size. Semi did it again tonight and a try resulted.

Parramatta chasing Nofo.

Nofoaluma’s likely extension with the joint venture is timely with the Eels turning their attention to other off-contract backs due to Nofoaluma’s asking price exceeding what they are willing to pay for a winger.

Changed their mind again…?

I wonder what we are willing to pay a winger?

Probably too much i'd imagine.

We have got to keep Nofo. In my mind he's third behind Teddy and Woods. Great club man, never any trouble off the field.
He was our best in the Storm game, great hit ups, lots of tackle breaks, gave everything all day. Yes he gets a lot of tries scored down his wing but once we get a proper centre who can defend I think we'll see that this has all been because of Naqama.

Not just Naiqama but some of the inside men as well. Someone posted videos on here recently that highlighted beautifully how the team gets it wrong in defence so often. It's like a domino effect - when the inside blokes stuff it up, the centre and winger are already on the back foot trying to compensate, then they stuff up royally as well! Though you're right Kev can pretty much stuff it up on his own a lot as well

Back on topic, Nofo is definitely a keeper - strong, barnstorming wingers are like gold. We just need someone like Tupou, who has height and speed, on the other wing and a good defensive centre, like Whare or Chambers, to partner Suli in the centres and we'd be a whole different team
