Nofoaluma one of NRL's best with dirty carries

Dirty carries. They're rugby league's thankless chore, but any coach will tell you that without them, your team's going nowhere.

Getting out of trouble is the first point of business most every time a team starts a set, but more often than not the forwards are making their way back onside having just got through 40-60 seconds of defensive work.

It's here where wingers, those blokes that allegedly spend their time hanging around footballers, pull their weight.

For the biggest, and often the best in this department, that's typically 100-odd kilos – which they'll pitch into a thankless run aimed at getting a side out of the defensive 40 metre zone and into an attacking position.

A couple of the NRL's more maligned flyers proved themselves adept, with Manly's Jorge Taufua and the Roosters Blake Ferguson contributing on average a dozen of these charges per game.

Warriors pair Ken Maumalo and David Fusitu'a also excelled, with Fusitua's average of 11.5 metres per run among the most potent in the NRL, according to NRL.com Stats.

At 94 kilos, Wests Tigers flyer David Nofoaluma is the outlier on this list, and punching well above his weight given Ferguson, Taufua and Maumalo all have at least seven kilos on him.

I could see Nofoaluma and Fonua forming a bash brother combo..

Getting up the field shouldn't be a problem..

Will Fonua be there for round 1 though? Sounds like MWZ has had a cracker of a pre-season…

Nofo and Fonua bringing the ball back is like having two extra forwards on the field. Assuming Fonua is there R1 of course

Just when most WT forumers had Suli, Marsters, Fonua in the backline (a week ago) things seem less clear now with Kev & MWZ having good off seasons and Suli gone. Once again Nofo might be our only backline battering ram.
Don’t really see Kev, MWZ, Milne making too many metres in the dirty hit up department.

MWZ didnt go too bad in that department last year….. and hopefully now, when fitter and faster, he can make more dirty metres

MWZ makes good dirty metres. I still want Fonua there though just to see how good he goes returning the ball.

Competition is good….I'm sure given injuries and form both will get their chance...

Kev isnt bad either. We are well covered in this area no matter who starts. Defence should be the deciding factor as a lot of them were insufficient last year.

Nofo wont be the only one doing the dirty carries
I can easily see Fonoa and Milne getting into that action
They all look very strong
Add our forwards to that and I have no doubts other teams defence will be sorely tested
If we get our DEFENCE right it won't be an easy day for other teams
We only need to win a couple more of those close games and we are in the 8
The experience in our recruitment should help in that area
I remember seeing Josh Renyolds chase down Adam Renolds just before the tryline last year and It saved a certain 6 points
That's what I like about Josh
He never gives up
That can lift a whole team
They just need to believe

It shows the try saver here…

I'm warming to Reynolds… wasn't too keen on his signing when it was first announced but if he refinds some form with the change of scenery he will definitely be an asset to the team.

Its a great highlights package. First song sums him up. He likes that adrenaline in his viens. Sometimes that brings the worst out in him but one thing you can never accuse him of is not giving a damn. Its an attitude severely lacking in this joint over the majority of the past couple of decades.

People just talk about his enthusiasm but he has a lot of good qualities. Good running game, nice step, he can be really elusive and plays what is in front of him and has the speed to take advantage of opportunities. He has a decent kicking game (better than Brooks) and is a good defender. Well worth the coin if he is playing well and gets rid of the brain explosions and when he lifts he can really lift the whole team. Wish we still had Addo-Carr though we are really lacking speed in the backline.

What a great highlights package
I know this is spaning his career but he has done some amazing stuff
He is a very quick thinker elusive and also has plenty of mongrel in him when it comes to defence
Also seems to read the play very well

Agree his attitude and enthusiasm puts him above others that have equal skill as a 5/8\. He has come at the right time for us. (With a big shift in the playing roster). A lot of his big moments in attack and defence come in key moments of the game as well. His will power and determination and win a game. As opposed to some other players highlights are filed with clips of them carving up when there team has momentum and is well on top.

He could be WT's most significant signing for attitude alone. Certainly an improvement on the slimy fish we had.
