North Korea's Kim Jong-un meets South Korea's Moon Jae-in in DMZ for historic peace talks

Well Russia sure do have a big back yard they neighbour Europe Asia China and the US. They are all within range of their conventional weapons. Only Australia Africa and Latin America are out of range of their conventional weapons but they are not important global areas and still within nuclear reach. People sometimes refer to the US spending 10 times what Russia spends military wise but this dosent mean they have 10 times the military. The US spends most of its money on bases and the navy for a global reach areas Russia can reach from it's own land owing to it's geographically strategic position. Not to mention the US pays it's soldiers wages where's Russia s soldiers are paid conscript wages but don't let anyone tell you they are inferior. Historically they withstood 26 million dead in WW2 something the US would crumble under. Remember too the Russians are a homogeneous nation but with the US you could only count on around 120 million as people who would be reliable. The rest are a cheap labour force trying to make a quick buck.

As for India Israel and Pakistan they have a combined 600 or so nukes without the global reach and don't manufacture planes and smart weapons but buy them off Russia and the US so that's dosent compare..

Economically Russia I believe has little or no debt and can choke off the world from raw materials and energy.

Influence wise the US is stronger but declining. Europe will soon push them out and can compete technology wise but they have a lot of influence in North and South East Asia and Latin America amongst third world areas. But the Americans must be worried about Russia's influence because they are constantly trying to demonize them. Around the world many people quite like the new Russia and Putin as moderate but strong voices. If you believe that they tampered in the US elections well that means the can do what the US has been doing.
America is a very aggressive power something which China and Russia is not and has not been historically. But don't let that fool you as weakness. American culture wants to be over the top and over confident but they quickly change the subject on disappointments.
Thankfully they can not do what they like anymore. The Chinese and Russians can't either so this new found accountability is a great thing as it in in sport and business.

Fair points.

Russia has a fair amount of external debt, but it is only a small percentage of their GDP (that is to say, less than 100%!)

Interestingly, it's a third of ours. With a smaller economy and the falling Ruble though I am not sure it would be "easy" to wipe out.

Overall I don't mind Russia's influence. As I said, they temper the aggressive US foreign policy and keep them in check. I was only debating that Russia don't fit the definition of superpower

Seriously though , who in their right mind would want to be a superpower in the current global situation

Bet the US wish they could pull the pin , you make yourself an obvious target to every flea bitten extremist group and then you have to enforce your power at every given moment one of them rises up against a supposed allies

Are you kidding?

Get off CNN and their fake news and educate yourself. :roll :roll

Russia has an economy equal to California.

There's no legal agreement in regards to Iran as the deal was done by Obama. Without the consent of Congress or the Senate.

I would just add, be very careful what you wish for. Without America God help us all.

America are bullies, but far from stupid. They have gone into countries that do not have strong military & exerted influence, but are not willing to stand up to other big powers.

Look at China building artificial islands in Philippines & Vietnam's territorial waters and basing bombers and missiles there. America has spoken harshly while this all occurred, but done nothing.
