Unfortunately,it was a red rattler which was involved in the Granville train disaster of 1977.

It was a locomotive with passenger cars similar age I'd say to the red rattlers like this one below

Correct, it was a loco hauled passenger train.

The red rattlers are still rattling down the track. Had a ride on one around 2016 Einasligh to Forsayth in QLD. The driver said they bought it from NSWRail.

loved the red rattlers,when state rail was free,lol.for a long time when they were taken out of service,a carriage could b delivered anywhere NSW for 500$.3 of those in a U shape,sleeping ,kitchen ,bathing ,covered over lounge room ,bliss.They pulled the offer after 5,10 years because of fibro(aspestos )content
