I used to get a pie, finger bun and drink for under $1 and I had money to buy a bag of lollies or pack of footy cards from the milk bar on the walk home

Yep TP , used to buy my Dads Benson and Hedges Gold 20s for 40 cents ( plus he threw in 5 cents for a lolly bag). Those were the days my friend …..But cigarettes were expensive. As a 7 year old I'd go to the corner shop to buy my parents cigarettes. You'd get served without any questions and I think a pack was about 40 cents.
When my mother first sent me to buy her smokes I was about 7 (1958) and a packet of Rothmans 20s were 3/3 or about 32 cents in today’s money. The smokes got her in the end.But cigarettes were expensive. As a 7 year old I'd go to the corner shop to buy my parents cigarettes.
