Nostalgia

269 0669 , that number to ring
hahaha and they were sponsored late in the piece by Dominos Pizza - 481 1111 🤣

I remember one home game watching Wests Magpies at Campbelltown, Zorba was walking down the grandstand steps when the whole crowd started sing "481 double one, double one."
It was so funny at the time and Zorba was great about it.

Bought my first Roy Orbison record from Wests at Burwood.
Obviously the opening of Westfield's in 67 was bit before my time but sounds like Wests sound bar was an original shop?

What about the lottery office at the back?

Remember in 83 when footy TAB started we were still in school and a few of us thought a way using many tickets to set up a multi with the starts using many tickets because you had to tick them....could only buy $1 ticket at a time.

Anyway, we got it but the outlay was bigger than the dividend.

Not a good year 83.

Well, it's even older than you think - the Wests record shop i actually went to was was originally located on Burwood Road, past the railway station , just up from the old Post Office. It relocated as a retail shop to Burwood Westfields.

Sounds like next to the walking feet suit shop and Retravision would have been.

Still in the neighbourhood and boy Burwood was a real top line shopping centre then.

Even Cornelius Furs selling mink coats worth thousands in the early 80s opposite where Garry Jack had his shop and Burwood RSL mini is today.

I remember the old lottery office up the back and fondly remember the donut/milkshake shop on the ramp leading up to it 🥤

I miss seeing the seniors getting on the bus resplendent in their  bowls outfits, with the club badge. 😀

Shame to see bowling clubs fall into disrepair.

They were everywhere.

A 26 inch Rank Arena T.V. was around $1300 which would be around $10k in today's money.
There was nothing particularly special about them. People would just pay that much to have the brand name in their house.

Big bucks when a house in Burwood was going for around 80k.

Remember around 79 my parents finally bought a Phillips colour for $990 from the Retravision store next to Post Office.

The Chrysler that I wanted for the ping pong game was about $1300 too.

Anyway, got the Aussie made Pye B& W from the living room to my room for sports.....with a promise that I could watch the Wests games on the colour TV so a good day

Didnt matter if you had the B&W tv when the Magpies were playing ! 🤣

The Original Song. No one can take my freedom away. Im just a bird in the sky.

The Dutchies have produced some pretty good bands/music over the years.
If you like this song, you will most likely 💕 another Dutch group called BZN.
They sang all sorts of songs from light rock to the well-known classics and were Very Popular for about 40 years in Holland and other parts of Europe.
If you are interested in hearing their music on Spotify, I suggest an album called "Round The Fire" or "A Symphonic Night" could be a good place to start.

Barries sports and hobbies my favourite. He had everything.

Apart from the banks all thats practically left on Burwood rd from the late 70s say is the piano shop up top.

Folks bought plenty of stuff from Frisco.
Murray Bros. was the poshest store in Burwood from memory. I used to be fascinated by the vacuum tubes where they sent stuff upstairs, then came back with a plop and a bang into the basket behind the counter.

I used to go to Burwood police boys club muck around on the trampolines and play basketball

I was always fascinated by the German helmet they had for sale in the disposals store

Used to have waffles and ice cream with mum at Coles cafeteria in Westfield when I was smaller... Used to love watch the donut machine too

Westfield's was already around when I first remember it but I can only imagine the difference it was for my parents compared to the main street shops most suburbs had
