Nostalgia

Just found this, which took me back to the times of Greg Hartley, the old time referee.
Apparently, way back in 1963, as a young player - before he went into refereeing - he was on the reserves bench for 3rd grade for the Eastern Suburbs club:

Interesting TO. Two things I note ;
1. The good old days of 3 grades for an afternoons entertainment. Serious supporters watched all three and used to enjoy identifying up and comers in 3rd grade with potential.
2. I never ever knew the great Clive Churchill coached the Dogs. Thought it was just South’s.
More great nostalgia. 👍🏻

Ron Raper there as reserve for 3rd grade for Canterbury, went on to play 1st grade with Canterbury between 1966 and 1972 before heading to Queensland.

He and his brothers always living in the shadow of their older brother.

Yeah champion @Halbrowne61 - when I see any of the old programs, my memories fill with all the days on the hill, the fun and the attachment to all the players in all the grades I watched, with family and friends.

“Those were the days my friend,
We thought they’d never end !”
- Mary Hopkin

They didn’t end, they just changed, and imo not always for the better. But I’m just an old baby boomer getting razzed by my grown up sons for how “easy we had it “. Didn’t seem that way at the time but I guess in retrospect it was a lot less stressful than negotiating life these days.
