Nostalgia

Today - 19 years ago......
1 match, 13 debuts, 1 birthday.

The year was 2007, the Matildas had already beaten Hong Kong 15-0 at home earlier in the year and now they faced them again away. Australia had missed out on qualifying for the Bejing Olympics so there was nothing to be won or lost by throwing in the U19s in the next to last qualifier.

Australia won the match 1-8 and the only member of the Tillies to start the match who wasn't making her debut was Claire Polkinghorne.

This was the match that gave birth to the careers of players like Ellyse Perry, Tameka Yallop, Elise Kellong-Knight & Kyah Simon who would go on to clock up well over 300 appearances between them. It was also the only appearance for a few players including Grace Gill, Rachel Doyle (coaching in the US College system) & Rachel Cooper.

Did Sermanni make the right call in blooding the youngsters??? Hell yeah!!!

Why did this stop?

Travelling on a train, 1954
The train compartments had a lot of wood panelling and if you needed a drink of water there were little cardboard cups and the water was ice cold.
