Not perfect but some good signs

Marking Suli would be difficult in the rain. Jennings doesn't look fully fit. You can't drop Thompson after that preformance. Mbye should be fit for R2 or 3\.
I think Mbye will go to fullback and Thompson to the wing.
 
Well I thought Momo played quite well - didn't get many chances in attack (not a great day for outside backs). When the ball did get to him it was far to slow and telegraphed, so no opportunity. His defence was pretty solid though. Suli is a big "mother" but I saw Momo deck him at least three times and help in the others. Took his opportunities was probably the best way to describe his game - at least he is a centre (Fonua and Jennings are not).

Someone mentioned Momo's speed (not a day for speed) but whilst on the subject I saw Jennings in the clear on the grandstand side and on that occasion wouldn't have run out of sight on a dark night in the Blue Mountains.

Momo deserves to keep his spot imo.

On the subject of Liddle - how good do people think he was going to play with a bunch of ISP players (that most are not going anywhere). Old saying "you only play as good as your opposition lets you" but also don't forget "you can only play as good as the people you are playing with" - and most of those were hopeless.

Liddle is our future - Farah will not be there in 2020\. Liddle will need time in the NRL.

He was actually looking for Marty to run at, I see that as his confidence increasing.

That was actually pretty funny, he definately bombed a try as he tries to turn his body to pass he just about trips, luckily he is a front rower.
 
I actually though that Brooks timed his support run poorly and as a result Packer made a decision not to throw a forward pass. Sign of excellent decision making!

Will watch again if I get the chance but the ball carrier should always determine the time to pass, support player needs to maintain depth so they can accelerate onto the ball… if was this timing that madeTerry Lamb such a great support player. Martin did it superbly last night for the Cowboys
 
Liddle may have been playing with ISP players Russ, but he was also playing against ISP players…

Liddle may be the future number 9 for us, but there’s daylight between him and Farah at the moment.
 
Got home last night from the game and read the live game thread. Thought I’d watch the replay before I posted. Just watched replay. Everyone analyses the game differently and we all have a certain bias but I cannot figure out how or why so many are so critical of Brooks. He was definitely organising our attack. He was either one or two wide all first half with runners coming off him constantly. In second half less so because we changed our point of attack - running in behind the ruck making huge metres up the middle. Also brooks kick chase was awesome as was his defence. Really solid or even good game from him.

Marshall and Farah - their experience was evident all game. They were calm and purposeful. Both looked sharp. Their kicking game was exceptional and won us the game. Farah out of dummy half was very very good. No way, at this stage, do Liddle or Reynolds displace them.

Just my opinion but I think the live game posts (some of them) were very harsh
 
Farah had a good game Avo - I could see that.

At the risk of being labelled a Farah basher ….

I just wish he would throw early quick ball to Brooks and not favor Benji all the time.

He ruined any chance of Brooks having a good game imo.

Yes.... he is better than Liddle - no question but he has faults too.
 
The live posts are usually very harsh because they are riding on raw emotion. I wouldn't put to much thought into it.
 
Yeah I was happy with how Brooks played - he looked like a composed halfback out there. I haven't watched the replay on TV yet but the crowd I was in at the game all thought Brooks went well.
 
Thought Brooks had a mixed game… Some ggod things some very poor options and kicks too.

Manly halves and forwards had nothing really... Didn't really test us at all

If we are going anywhere this year Brooks will have to improve heaps on that effort.
 
Agree.
Also Manly didn't have their Fullback nor Walker. Both of them in would have caused us problems.
When you have 57% of the ball you are entitled to win by 20 (even in the rain).
I thought our defence was an improvement and we won a game we should have won. But it was not a great win.
As for the Warriors next week, they will fall apart. Yesterday was a huge emotional effort and a great win, but I can't see them carrying that emotion.
 
My take away is that the balance looks right. We have a left edge, a right edge, a strong middle third and a balanced bench that provides impact.

Can only improve from here.
 
I am sure he will improve as will the whole team. He was better than Cherry-Evans tonight and that says something. Not a good night for halves. It was a 'pigs' game all night, and our blokes stood up.
 
Brooks outplayed his opposition halfback in at least 80% of games last year. Yesterday he outplayed DCE by some margin
 
Yep. It makes it easier for our halves when they have a decent team around them. We still have some issues but the squad is pretty well balanced now.
