As an old Magpie fan IMO the best years we had were in the late 70's.
We had no sponsor at all and lost our coach. We promoted our reserve grade coach in Roy Masters and went on to be a very good football team.
I know its a different time now and a good supportive sponsor is a must but players that play with heart and go into war with and for each other and the coach is in my opinion more important.
If the players no longer want to fight for the coach it doesn't matter who the coach is and how much experiance he has they simply will not.
