My elder son worked as the ARL Development Officer at Penrith from 2002 to 2004\. For my wife and I, Penrith became our second team. We got to know a lot about the Penrith players and Luke Lewis became, and still is, my wife's favourite player. He was one of about half a dozen players, who went out of their way to support our son's very successful efforts in promoting the sport in the area.
I just finished reading the story in the Sunday Telegraph about Luke, his wife and father-in-law, which was a great read. The effort by Laurie Daley and the team to acknowledge the loss of Nick de Loreto without a lot of fanfare taught me lots about Laurie Daley. Others would have used the matter to put themselves in the lime-light, but Laurie went about it in a quiet and meaningful way for Luke, his wife and family.
Now I understand how Laurie and the NSW State-of-origin team quietly went about doing their job and achieving success.
I hope they continue in this vane, because this will help them achieve more success in the future!
