NRL announces rule changes

**The NRL has announced several rule changes for the 2021 Telstra Premiership season to make the game "faster, more free-flowing, entertaining and unpredictable".**

The changes are:

the introduction of a two-point field goal for kicks taken from more than 40 metres out;

six-again to be called for 10-metre infringements;

penalties for teams if they leave a scrum before a referee calls "break";

a play-the-ball restart if the ball or player with the ball goes over the sideline;

The Bunker will now review replays after an on-field referee awards a try but a conversion attempt will not be allowed until it gets the green light;

injured players will be interchanged if a trainer ask for play to be stopped;

when a captain's challenge is inconclusive a team will not be docked for an unsuccessful attempt;

and a handover will be ordered when a player does not make a genuine attempt to play the ball correctly with their foot.

I think they are good changes.
Although I think the interchange one will be very interesting and perhaps controversial.

2 point field goal? That's huge.
And no scrum if the ball goes out, just a ply the ball. Scrums only for knock-ons I guess, that's a big change too.

To control the speed of the game, more work will be spent in the wrestling whilst standing in the tackle, then dumping to the ground just after the ref calls held. Storm and Roosters did this very well last year, we need to follow suit.

Every year they always review the rules, trying to make the game more marketable. I wish they'd focus on consistency between referees on a week to week basis and even in calls made by the same referee. For me there's way too much subjectivity in a the decision made within a game, and barely any focus on the consistency. This is why decisions can appear so skewed, and thoughts of bias in the referee decisions are brought up.

Hopefully employing badger can help us get our head around these rules, and use them to our advantage.

Oh, and the Match Review Committee is like a lucky dip, consistency there and actual working together with the refs would be a plus, novel idea though it may seem.

People genuinely leave the game because of refereeing decisions. And here we are making it even harder for the referees to do their job.

**injured players will be interchanged if a trainer ask for play to be stopped;**

This is a great decision.

Agree, it will stop a lot of fake injuries just to hold up play and give the team a breather. The penalty is it will take up an interchange. I’m sure there will be some circumstances where the captain/coach will abuse it and think it is worth it anyway.

I hope Badger has got the latest edition of the bastardised rule book .

Two point field goal - rubbish and changing the fabric of the game. Leave the game alone!!

Its only for 40m or more out, so I dont think many will try. Except for desperate situations.

True - so why bring it in. Same as 20/40. Same as less and less scrums. Plays from scrums are good. Too many rules changing how the game should be played I reckon. But that’s just me

It’s about fan excitement! Tigers down by one or two with a minute on the clock on the other side of half way
Yep not saying your got someone that can kick it .. but the game is still in play .
Seen a Magpies game one night at Campbelltown when this situation played out and that was exciting !!!

Really don't think it's fair.... Genuine cases shouldn't lose and interchange

But the knobs in head office love golden point so that extra 10 mins of “excitement” could be wiped out .
They haven’t thought this one through very well .

Well policing the 10m rule will be interesting cause currently it’s non existent!
Why would you need to change the value of field goals has git me beat?
Anyway they should trial these things in lower grades before implementing ......

They are gimmick rules trying to appease people who aren’t really fans of footy

They’ve just made scrums good again by letting teams choose where to take them from and now they’re trying to reduce scrums, seems counterintuitive productive
