Call me what you like,my opinion is that as an Australian citizen born and bred in this magnificent country,I was raised to respect everything Australian,my parents came here after WW2 and called Australia home ever since, they have now deceased but are buried in this great country in a small cemetary in the Southern highlands amongst purebred Australian friends that respected them for who they were..
I was always taught to sing the anthem loud and clear from a very young age at school, back then it was "waltzing matilda"..then it became Advance Australia Fair..I bet LM,ADO CAR AND Walker were all made to sing it in school as well..How pathetic to turn your back on the true essence of Australia because they think they are hard done by...look what they earn and the privaledge they are given from playing our great game in this fantastic country...and they think we are privaledged because they are indigieous and we are white,,,as far as my parents thought we were all equal and working to make this country great...how politics and minority tossers have ruined this country...

How can Advance Australia Fair represent the true essence of Australia when it’s was only made the national anthem in 1984, many years after your parents arrived here. Did we not have an essence before that.

The real essence of Australia is multiculturalism with all cultures equally respected and until we have a national anthem which reflects this then I don’t believe we should be forcing anyone to respect it.

The whole singing not singing the Anthem really has only became a thing in recent times..not that long ago a lot of Australian sporting teams you had some who sung and some who didn't..The Australian Cricket team under Steven Waugh hardly anyone sung but they stood there shoulder to shoulder ..no one batted an eyelid no one called them Un Australian and no one was outraged..

Then it became a thing to sing an all of a sudden it's a issue if you don't..

meh big deal..

what happens in 20/30/40 years when the face of australia changes again or another group raises concerns that it doesn't reflect their positions as Australians? ? Do we as a country revisit it again to update it or do we leave it?

Could you imagine a New Zealand Rugby or Rugby League player refusing to be respectful while their National Anthem was played or refusing to take part in a Haka.

You can call me a redneck or a racist, which is believe is a long way from the truth, but all I can say about it is:

Australia, Love it or Leave it!

If you really loved Australia you would respect and fully embrace the indigenous culture, a bit like New Zealand do.

I’m sure the indigenous boys love Australia as much as you. They just don’t love an outdated, offensive and frankly rubbish song.

What a load of rubbish, the anthem is the anthem for all, do you advocate us having different ones for different races.

Anyway the NRL have regained their senses and reinstated the national anthem for the games. I expect some will turn there back or take a knee, tbh I would not select them again.

Just to answer your question mate...it was the Anthem that people voted on to be the NATIONAL ANTHEM,it was by Australians for Australians...that is the true essence of our country ,we as a whole work together, live together and stick by each other to be the great country we are,if a minority that wants to split because they have issues from the past or other forms of missalighnment instilled in them...then their not truely grasping the multicultural essence we always have had..

If the anthem is the anthem for all then it can’t airbrush out of existence our oldest culture. I’m not advocating different anthems for different races, I’m advocating one anthem with is not grossly offensive to any race.

I know. It's disgusting ?. As a wests Tigers fan what have I had to rejoice about? Think about us!
I want a few lines thrown in there about how unfair the nrl is to my team.

There's more to life than bloody football mate.

We all LIVE in this country, and we have much to rejoice about.

Maybe you should try to live in Eritrea or Rwanda for awhile if you think there is nothing to rejoice about here other than football.

When you say issues from the past I suppose your talking about the whole attempted genocide on our indigenous culture thing. Attitudes to the indigenous cultures today are very different to what they were in 1984. We have began to own the horrific treatment we subjected these people to and are in the process of attempting to atone for past crimes. Part of this is accepting indigenous Australians as equal members of our society and the national anthem should reflect this.

I don't understand the argument about the Australian Anthem being offensive to indigenous players. The argument is redundant once a player accepts a place on the team, Its State of Origin. A competition exclusively between 2 Australian states. So we have the indigenous welcome to country ceremony ( I believe) and then its OK to wear the jersey of an Australian State and accept Australian currency as payment but once the nations anthem is played its suddenly rage inducing and emotionally over whelming to be reminded that the continent was colonized and then the nation of Australia was formed 200 + yrs ago. im not writing this with contempt or trying to be dismissive im trying to understand the problem

From what I understand it is the wording of young and free, I think there is also some issues with the original message of the song in regards to the alternate verses.
