Buying two cheap polos and getting a free NON TICKETED membership …yeah righto !!!

It's been a really enthralling season to go and watch us lose all year under pasty faces leadership :unamused:

I'll jump back on the bandwagon if there's any spare seats available in the future !

Ticket prices are way to high. Food and drinks at all grounds are poor quality and hugely expensive. Two very basic things.
Prices should be comparable to the (already inflated) prices of going to the movies. 2 hours of entertainment for about $20\. If you're stupid enough to want popcorn and coke (beer and a pie) then you stump the extra $10-15\. Monday/Thursday night games should be $12-15.

The things is the game is built for television these days. Everything revolves around catering for tv companies and getting a higher tv deal. This comes at the expense of what fans actually want, and so crowds decline. The NRL needs to re-invest some of the $ from the deal into making it cheaper/better for fans to attend games.

Sydney sporting culture is very fickle. Win, and people will come, well a few more will. Lose, only die hards will show up.

There's also very little atmosphere at practically every single NRL match these days. 75 mins of silence combined with 5 mins of rudimental chanting combined with a few cheers for points/boos for the ref etc.

Even places like LO are pretty dead these days as we don't even have traditional rivals so there's much less rivalry on and off the field.

Ticket prices aren't too high. EPL charges an insane amount and they get crowds five or ten times NRL. It's ludicrous to think that live entertainment featuring the best in the world at their sport should be priced on a par with watching a film.

EPL is arguably the biggest and most popular sporting competition in the world - not really a fair comparison.
And even then, the bigger clubs can charge what they want due to the demand, but some of the smaller clubs up north are much cheaper, and struggle to get the same sort of crowds.
Whilst I'll pay it every time, the $30ish it costs to stand on the hill at Leichhardt is ridiculous tbh.

But you're right - the Sydney culture is generally the issue. I'm sure we've all got work colleagues that talk about and wear their club colours fairly often, but only really go to a game every year or two. People are always surprised that I'm actually a member of my club, and go to as many games as possible. Souths have altered this culture (to a degree) given their membership numbers, and other Sydney clubs are following suit. Success plays a massive part obviously, but the Eels are showing it's not everything - they've got 22k members this year despite being a basketcase.

Don't worry FT , if Hobbo was a real mate he would offer his Qld brothers free BNB at Hobbos 24 hour motel and diner

That's if his BNB doesn't get burnt down in the bushfires

Hope no one has been affected by the fires by the way

You're always welcome to stay at hobbo's palace mate , wouldn't hurt to answer your phone though

Haven't got enough Taco kits for Jimenez to stay though :roll

Raul loves the Spag Bol

Mate you keep trying to put the moves on the Mrs , she's not interested

I don't know but I find league a little boring now…back in 2005/2006 the game was quite free flowing with great attacking rugby league. But now I don't know just a litle stale...I find the NBA much more entertaining. Perhaps it's the wrestling and refing or maybe cause the tigers are going garbage...

Absolutely.

Channel 9 and FOX get the first dibs.

Then the fans…

They can have tickets for $5 and people still wouldn't go. There's enough cheap packages on offer for families etc that price shouldn't be a factor. But with foxtel getting cheaper its a double edged sword.

Agree there's a culture issue in Sydney with going to games and just getting people to buy memberships every year. Very different culture to Melbourne and AFL fans.

Lot of people talk about the refs and rule changes (shoulder charge, no punch) peeving people off somewhat but the game is still pretty quick all the same. Predictable play? Maybe. Hopefully interchange reduction alters this.

I miss the real talent in players these days. It's true shat they say, todays players are 'athletes' more than footy players.

I miss the Ron Coote scything cover tackles.
I miss the Scott Gale impulse plays
I miss the Artie Beetson off loads
I miss the Jim Fiddler long kicks
I miss the Larry Corowa magic
I miss the Ken Irvine magic
I miss the Graeme Langlands side step
I miss Tommy Raudonikis toughness
I miss the Pringle/Lockwood partnership
The list goes on

Today most players don't do a great deal but are referred to as stars. That's my perception anyway

Its part of the parcel… While TV pays the bills, the biggest focus will be on building tv audiences.

Every sponsor is sold the TV audience pitch, rather than "we get 30k to each game"

the NRL doesn't care about or understand the fans.

more people than ever are being turned off the game by the video ref. The overuse of it and the constant criticism of it by commentators means it's time is done. Give teams one challenge a half and have the touch judges make decisions for once.

and figure out a way to make the game-day experience better, particularly at ANZ. Pre-match entertainment should be sooooo much better than a roadside sausage stand and a free mask upon entry.

I think we're just a bit over the lack of authenticity in nrl.

I think there's a big mis-match between how the game is promoted and the way the typical fan feels.

It's a big outlay for many fans with families to go to games week in and week out. But yet, SOO, is promoted as the be-all-and-end-all of rugby league, is packed out with the mob who want to go to an event, not just another week in the nrl draw.

The "stench" around nrl with episodes like the arrogance and stupidity of the players like the Fifita brothers, SKD, Foran/DCE/Manly coach etc (and we could all name others….) makes the game look "fake" and reliant upon the old-guard like Rabs and Gus to somehow inspire us to believe otherwise.

In terms of authenticity their comments are BS, rubbish, disconnected with how many of us see expenditure on professional sport attendance is determined.

The game needs a massive shake up and a big exercise on finding out what exactly appeals to cash-strapped fans these days.

More of the same won't work and fans will continue to view from a distance until something inspires them to go to games because their team and their sport matters enough to pay for the experience.

Double headers are still the answer in my opinion ,especially Saturdays and Sundays

IMO this is where it is going ..Holden cup finishes end 2016 so I would expect 2017 the start of the double headers .
This is the progression of the game especially in the Sydney market not bad value there 2 NRL games bigger crowd ,you can stay or you can leave after your clubs commitment..make it a special event some good entertainment between games some top acts all good!
