We live in a different world now. Personally I preferred the attitude that you give it a red got go and if your opponent beat you. You respected the fact that they were better on the day.

If all the clubs had the same amount to spend on players as per cap and they have to put a squad together in the NRL why wouldn't the NRL get rid of TPAs…the cap amount is what your permitted to use,no outside benefits at all....I know everyone will say but the big marquee players will suck the money up...to bad,if they want to play in the nrl then an x amount is all they are worth...or move to SL ....just saying this could keep them all on a level playing field...I forgot the brown paper bags...something needs to be done about them as well...

Then let them go out and find their own sponsors, or have their manager do it - totally divorced from their club and their contract.

The NRL should (and possibly do) have the power to standardise contracts across all clubs. That way all that is required is to fill in the length of contract, the amount paid per year, Any Addendums to the contract should then have to be approved by the NRL.
No TPAs etc. This should then be made public so that us fans - who 'own the game' could see how it is certain clubs seem to be able to put together a roster most clubs could only dream about.
It would also allow the tax man to keep an eye on individuals as well.

Being serious for a moment though, there could legitimately be an argument that DCE is so wealthy and on easy street that the money is not particularly consequential to him, i.e. it's lots of money in his account every week and he doesn't really pay attention any more to how much comes in, because it's more than enough. Or perhaps he really does shovel his money to his accountant and just accepts that a professional is doing the required work, like celebrities do with their managers (and hopefully not skimming off the top).

Either that or he's just delinquent with his finances and doesn't pay serious enough attention. I am sure there are plenty of Aussies who don't give proper heed to their finances, some because they aren't intellectually equipped, and may not actually be aware of the full terms and conditions of their job / salary.

I personally doubt it, he's 29 years old and in his final contract. He seems reasonably intelligent and needs to be thinking about his future, so I doubt he's unaware of what was offered and how it was put together. Especially because the deal came in the wake of an epic backflip on the Titans, in which DCE was surely making very close comparisons between the offers of the two clubs.

Not sure what you mean that is the definition of a non club affiliated third party agreement. ..there are many examples out there Billy Slater gatorade Tedesco Nike..just do it…

That's how the story reads at least that is part of it.
Did DCE sign said contract?
If he did, him & his manager are clearly part of the cover up.

Seriously the NRL has to be one of the most corrupt organizations in sport.
This breach by Manly came to light because of a whistle blower and/or police investigation and they tipped off the NRL.
Does the NRL even have a salary cap audit team anymore?
If they do, why don't they EVER find anything??
