NRL Gift to Cameron Smith’s wife

The NRL has presented Cam Smith’s wife a $15,000 ring to mark his 400 NRL game.
I definitely agree that the 400 game mark would have required huge support from his family and sacrifices in some departments with regard to family life. Cam has not played for free and has been paid handsomely for his football and will probably continue to be well paid in commentary etc once he retires from playing.
Was it really necessary for the NRL to gift his wife a $15,000 ring? Wouldn’t a nice floral arrangement said a sufficient thank you?
Just seems very wrong to me.
